When the 2023 inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced last week, one newer resident of Boulder City had more of an emotional stake in the outcome than most.
Filming movies, television shows or commercials in Las Vegas is very common. But over the years, Boulder City has seen its fair share of moments on the both the big and small screen as well as the pages of many magazines.

1 WINE NOT?: After a summer hiatus, the Best Dam Wine Walk returns to downtown from 4-8 p.m. Saturday. “Masquerade” is the theme of this month’s event; mask judging will take place by Boulder Dam Brewing Co. in Hotel Plaza. There will be more than 20 participating locations. Tickets are $25 per person or $45 per couple. 1 TIME TRAVEL: Take a walk through the past while learning about the people and events that shaped Boulder City on a visit to the Boulder City-Hoover Dam Museum. Filled with exhibits and interactive displays, the museum focuses on the early days of Boulder City and the construction of Hoover Dam. It is housed inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St. The museum is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
1 CELEBRATION: Lake Mead National Recreation Area will help celebrate the National Park Service’s 102nd birthday Saturday. Rangers will be at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Road, to answer questions about the park or others in the National Park Service system. The celebration kicks into high gear at 12:30 p.m., when birthday cake will be served.
1 ARTISTIC VIEW: Boulder City Art Guild will honor its August artist of the month, Donavon Lockett, during a reception from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at its gallery inside the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St. Lockett is a photographer and will showcase his work featuring the trees of Mount Charleston. 1 HAUNTINGLY SWEET: The folk/rock/alt/country quartet The Unwieldies will perform at The Dillinger Food and Drinkery on Saturday night. 1 ROCK OUT: Head over to the Boulder City Library to catch “Rock of Ages,” a musical comedy-drama about a small-town girl and a city boy pursuing their dreams of stardom in Hollywood. If someone is researching Boulder City’s history, chances are the majority of what they find will center around the building of Hoover Dam.
One of the final steps before installation of the monument honoring fallen soldier and Boulder City native Shane Patton happened without fanfare at the city council meeting this week.
If you didn’t read the agenda, you would have no idea that the city council took a vote on the issue of municipal judge in Boulder City.
The High Scalers, the robotics team at Boulder City High School, will be competing in the Las Vegas Regionals of the FIRST Robotics Competition at the Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of UNLV this weekend.
