Unable to continue to advance in postseason play, Boulder City High School football bowed out on the road to rival Virgin Valley on Nov. 7 in a 39-6 defeat.

Former Boulder City High School swimmer Zane Grothe won two events at USA Swimming’s 2013 U.S. Open on July 30-Aug. 3 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif. Grothe, who will be a senior at Auburn University this fall, won the 1,500-meter freestyle with a time of 15 minutes, 13.39 seconds, and the 800-meter freestyle in 7 minutes, 56.15 seconds. He was fifth in the 400 freestyle
(3:54.68).

Monday is the first day of fall practice for Boulder City’s football team. In the ensuing seven days, the Eagles’ eight other fall athletic teams will begin official practices for their seasons.
Capitol Reef National Park, in south-central Utah’s red rock country, is a special jewel in our national park system. While most people visit to see, hike, or climb in the natural landscape, or to see the prehistoric rock art, many others go there to pick fruit or nuts. The most important part of what happens in a city council meeting is not always the vote. Sometimes it is something that seems minor at the time. This week, as the council finally voted unanimously to tighten up Boulder City’s notoriously lax leash law, the important part came long before any discussion about the actual law.

Parents of student athletes playing on Boulder City High School’s football team received a note last Thursday morning from BCHS Principal Amy Wagner informing them that the team’s head coach would be “unavailable” for that night’s playoff game.
