Boulder City High School wrestling was busy this past week, competing in a tri-dual at home on Dec. 10, followed by a trip to La Costa Canyon in Carlsbad, Calif. on Dec. 12.
Many of the treasures that the 1.6 million-acre Mojave National Preserve offers can only be found by traveling many miles on remote gravel roads. One such destination is in the extreme eastern region of the park at Fort Piute.
The game was closer than expected through three innings as the Lady Eagles softball team led Virgin Valley 2-0. The Lady Bulldogs are 1-15. But the Boulder City hitters came to life in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring four runs in each inning.
Boulder City High junior Tyler Rushworth was hoping just to place in the top three against what he thought was a competitive field in the USA Wrestling Nevada high school Greco-Roman freestyle and folkstyle wrestling championships. He never expected to win one event, let alone to sweep unbeaten through both.
The Boulder City Eagles were up 6-0 heading into the top of the third before they doubled their lead, and put the game away for good.
Right fielder Jessica Embro set a school record with four triples in one game as the Boulder City softball team opened its Sunrise League schedule Monday with a convincing 20-1 victory on the road against Desert Pines.
Boulder City’s Sam Gomez set a meet record with a discus throw of 163 feet, 7 inches Saturday in the Heitkotter Invitational track and field meet at Faith Lutheran.
Each week, the coaches at Boulder City High School nominate an athlete to spotlight for contributions made to his or her team. This week’s honoree is junior Peyton Koopman. A member of the Eagles’ varsity baseball team, Koopman plays left field and pitcher. He pitched winning games against Foothill High School March 7 and 14, and had two home runs in the team’s 12 13-4 victory March 12 over Spring Valley.
