It is said that those who don’t recall their history are condemned to repeat it. That might not be a bad thing in Boulder City. Everyone seems to be pining for the old days. The ’31ers built this town into what it is today, and the current residents want to keep it that way.

As I have noted in the past, while there are several major veterans service organizations whose names are well-known by most Americans, there are also numerous legitimate smaller groups that do good work but are less known to the general public. One such organization is Nation of Patriots, which coincidentally is very active in Boulder City.

To help prevent mosquito bites, eliminate their preferred environment

The Southern Nevada Health District released a press release this month that stated the first West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes of the season were identified in the 89005 ZIP code through its mosquito surveillance program. West Nile virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the continental United States. It is most commonly spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito.

Military members lucky in love

For the second year in a row, Clark County, in conjunction with the Armed Forces Chamber of Commerce and others, has produced “Las Vegas Marries the Military.” During Veterans Day weekend, 11 couples from around the country came to Nevada to get married or to renew their vows in no-cost ceremonies from the Strip to downtown and other locations around the city. Five of the ceremonies were new weddings, and six were vow renewals. Those participating were veterans, on active duty, in the National Guard, reservists or retired.
