The National Park Service is considering closing two trails at Lake Mead National Recreation Area on an annual seasonal basis after four deaths in two summers forced the trails’ temporary closure.
Around 80 volunteers will pick up trash along 3 miles of the lower Colorado River along the Black Canyon National Water Trail by canoe, kayak, foot and diving between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday.
Marshmallows are an old favorite around the campfire, but this spring the classic treat is serving a new purpose: promoting safe habits at Lake Mead National Recreation Area for the fast-approaching summer.
Area science and nature enthusiasts scoured more than 4 square miles around Lake Mead on Saturday, as part of the National Park Service’s 100th anniversay celebration, cataloging and learning about the national recreation area’s plethora of flora and fauna.
The National Park Service invites residents of all ages and backgrounds to participate in a nature exploration event March 19 at Lake Mead.
