Helping Boulder City High School softball reach the postseason, five Eagles received postseason accolades.
Boulder City High School boys swimming won their fourth consecutive 3A state championship, while the girls finished as 3A state runner-up.
Taking home some hardware, six Boulder City High School girls track and field stars did just that at the 3A state meet.
Back on the mountaintop, Boulder City High School boys volleyball recaptured the 3A state championship, defeating rival Moapa Valley, 3-0, on May 13.
Hackberry Canyon in the southwestern section of the 1.9- million-acre Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah remains so enchantingly unspoiled it’s easy to forget you’re in the 21st century. And that’s the point of going there! While the hike is quite remote, the reward is a stunning narrow canyon, carved by a perennial stream, flanked by lush vegetation. Each week the coaches at Boulder City High School nominate an athlete to spotlight for contributions made to his or her team. This week’s honoree is sophomore Sarah Estes, who swam her two best times, 58.85 and 2:24.40, in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley, respectively, at Saturday’s Last Chance meet. Her coach expects her to be a great asset to the girls swim team in the future and praised her dedication and ability to follow directions.
The Boulder City track team hosted the Boulder City Small School Invite on Friday.
If there is one thing you can call the Boulder City baseball team, it’s champions. After beating Southeast Career Technical Academy on April 22, 8-0, the Eagles claimed the Division I-A title for the season, remaining undefeated 12-0 for league play.
The Lady Eagles softball team continues its winning season, putting it further ahead in first place for league standings.
Lincoln County, Nevada, our nearest neighboring county to the north, is rich in sites where you can see unspoiled petroglyphs, the mysterious rock carvings that have graced cliffs and boulders since prehistoric times. Two of my favorite sites in that area are the White River Narrows Archaeological District and the Mount Irish Rock Art and Archaeological District, both located off State Route 318, north of Alamo and Hiko.

This week’s honoree is senior Sariah Gneiting who placed first in shot put and discus, with throws of 34:2 and 100:1, respectively, during the April 22 meet in Pahrump. The previous week at the Ocean View Small School meet, she set a record in shot put with a throw of 35:11. Additionally, she was praised for having never missed a practice, setting new personal records nearly every week of the season and mentoring younger athletes.
