September offers something for everyone at Boulder City Library

As the heat finally comes down outside, inside the library we have cooked up some amazing events for this upcoming September that we’re excited to tell you all about. No matter what age our patrons are, we pride ourselves on having something for everyone, and our programming schedule for September is no exception.

Starting strong in early September, we have our monthly Dam Book Club meeting for our patrons aged 18 and up. This month, our dedicated book enthusiasts are meeting up at the Southwest Diner to discuss “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson. Whether you’ve read the book multiple times and are an expert or have just dipped your toes in with a few chapters, all are welcome. Come join us for an hour of book talk on Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Southwest Diner.

If you’re looking to get crafty and make some beautiful art to kick off the fall, we have some classes coming up that’ll get your creative juices flowing. Our Origami class, which meets multiple times throughout the year, will meet on Sept. 6, where you can learn to carefully fold an Infinite Spinner design. Sept. 13 hosts our UV Resin class, where you can work with resin to create some dazzling art pieces. Finally, on Sept. 15, we’ll have visiting artist and former Boulder City Library librarian Deanna show us how to make beautiful paper flowers. No outside materials required - just bring yourself, any interested friends and your creativity. Sign-ups are required for crafting events.

Our library works hard to do the best we can for Boulder City and its community, but we’re not the only ones providing important resources. Please join Jennifer Hedlund, the Community Resources Liaison for the Boulder City Hospital, at our library on Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. to learn more about our local service organizations and what they do to help people in need, as well as other resources in Clark County that you can access. Refreshments and a chance to win prizes are provided to visitors as well, so make sure to stop by, meet some like-minded folks, and leave better equipped to help yourself and anyone you know that might be in need.

Looking to show off your trivia knowledge? On Sept. 18 at 3 p.m., we’re hosting a trivia competition with questions pulled from an American classic, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. We know that there are plenty of trivia aficionados in Boulder City, so we’re looking forward to meeting you and seeing what you know. This event allows for teams of up to four, so feel free to bring your friends, form a team, and spend an afternoon learning about the most interesting trivia that Merriam-Webster has to offer in a friendly, competitive environment.

As we round out our featured adult events for September, we’ll focus on a scholarly area that should be of interest to all of us in Boulder City, namely the Colorado River and the Colorado River Basin. We are honored to host UNLV professor George Rhee, an educator who studies climate change and renewable energy, as he gives a seminar titled “An Introduction to the Colorado River - and the Climate of the Colorado Basin.” Please join us for an enlightening conversation and discussion on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. in our library Community Room.

After a wonderful 2026 Summer Reading Program for both our youth and adult participants with many incredible youth programs that were offered, our youth library programmers had some much-needed rest and recuperation in August. Now that September is upon us and school is back in session with new start and dismissal times, we’re making some scheduling changes to your favorite programs, so make sure you check out our event booklet or online calendar for new times.

We hope to see you at these events and at the many others that we’ll be offering in September. Thank you for reading More Than Books, and we’ll see you here at the Boulder City Review next month.
