Golf team looks to duplicate success

Bringing back a handful of experience and the best golfer in the classification, Boulder City High School girls golf will look to capture their third consecutive 3A state championship.

“This year we hope to contend for another state championship,” head coach Bobby Reese said. “We have a strong core of girls returning. The state meet is up there this year and it’s always hard to predict what they have up North. Between the talent pool and the weather, I’m confident we’ll be right in the mix again this season.”

Highlighting the girls efforts, phenom Emmerson Hinds will try to capture an unprecedented fourth consecutive 3A individual state championship, which would make her only the third Nevada golfer to accomplish the feat.

“Honestly, there’s no pressure coming into the season,” Hinds said. “I’m focused on just having a great year with my teammates and trying my best.”

Winning last season’s state meet with ease, Hinds shot a score of 156 at home at Boulder Creek.

Her next closest competitor was Truckee’s Allison Mortimeyer with a score of 173.

Returning alongside Hinds will be Morgan Terrill, who shot a 176 over the two-day stretch at state, good for a fourth-place finish, and Makenzie Martorano, who finished seventh at state with a score of 185.

Gaining experience at state last season with a 22nd-place finish out of 32 competitors, Ashlyn Ruter will be the Eagles’ fourth golfer.

Looking to start the season off strong, the Eagles will host a match today at Boulder Creek, with eyes of once again going undefeated in league play.

“It’s still early in practice so far,but I am very impressed with their improvement,” Reese said. “More importantly, I’m impressed with how they are approaching practices. They have a higher level of focus and motivation and I could not be more proud of them.”
