Setting lofty goals for themselves coming into the season, senior Boulder City High School girls’ tennis stars Chayce Larson and Madeline Morris finally reached the pinnacle on Oct. 26, finishing as 3A state champions in doubles competition.

Each week the coaches at Boulder City High School select an athlete to spotlight for contributions made to his or her team. This week’s honoree is freshman Lani Potter, a member of the girls golf team. Potter, the daughter of Rich and Julia Potter, has had the lowest score, earning medalist honors in all five league matches this season. In the Division I-A regional golf tournament Oct. 14, she shot a 4-over-par 76.
School is in session, and now when the kids get home they just want to plop on the couch and enjoy video games or social media.

Boulder City received the prestigious Enterprise Risk Management Excellence Program Award (ERMEP) during the Oct. 22 city council meeting.
Near the beginning of last week’s city council meeting, frequent-flyer public commentor Fred Voltz (whose views on the proposed addition of up to $9 million to the $25 million or so already earmarked to replace the city’s pool you can read on Page 4) made a pretty surprising allegation about the finances of the city’s two golf courses.
It may sound a bit odd to pay tribute to the one-year anniversary of a camera. But when that camera has helped bring thousands to town, and with it as many smiles, it’s worth it.
