Athlete of the Week

Each week the coaches at Boulder City High School nominate an athlete to spotlight for contributions made to his or her team. This week’s honoree is senior Sariah Gneiting who placed first in shot put and discus, with throws of 34:2 and 100:1, respectively, during the April 22 meet in Pahrump. The previous week at the Ocean View Small School meet, she set a record in shot put with a throw of 35:11. Additionally, she was praised for having never missed a practice, setting new personal records nearly every week of the season and mentoring younger athletes.

As the season nears its end, the Boulder City baseball team has one goal in mind: win the league title for top seed in the playoffs.

Eagles win despite absences, limited practice

Despite being plagued with absences, the Boulder City boys and girls swim teams won their dual meet over Virgin Valley on Saturday at the Henderson Multigenerational Pool. The girls won 200-77; the boys won 133-126.

This week’s honoree is junior Samuel Gomez, who set a personal record in shot put with a throw of 46-7½, earning second place, and threw a meet record of 160-6 in discus at the Ocean View Small School Invite in Huntington Beach, Calif. He is the son of Holly Gomez.
