When the 2023 inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced last week, one newer resident of Boulder City had more of an emotional stake in the outcome than most.
Filming movies, television shows or commercials in Las Vegas is very common. But over the years, Boulder City has seen its fair share of moments on the both the big and small screen as well as the pages of many magazines.
Sharing the foods and flavors of his native Spain has long been a dream of Eligio Gomez Morais.
1‘PUP CRAWL’: See Spot Run will present its seventh annual poker run, pup crawl and silent auction Saturday. The event, scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., will include stops at several local pubs. Participants can visit in any order and collect cards, turning in their best high or low hand by 9 p.m. Winners will be announced at 9:30 p.m. at Boulder Dam Brewing Co., 453 Nevada Way. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Brewpub. 1Portland Rockers: Psychedelic blues rockers Comanche Joey will perform at 8 p.m. today at the Boulder Dam Brewing Company, 453 Nevada Way. The Portland-based trio arrives fresh off shows in Utah and Colorado, and after rocking Boulder City, will continue through California, reaching all the way up to Fairbanks, Alaska, before returning to Oregon. 1DAM GOOD BARBECUE: The 12 annual Best Dam Barbecue Challenge returns 4-10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bicentennial Park, 999 Colorado St. In addition to award winning food there will be live entertainment, an array of diverse vendors, the Best Dam Car Show, a kids activity zone and grilling lesson, as well as a police vs. fire department rib eating competition. The event is free and open to all ages.
The city’s most talented youths and adults will showcase their abilities during Saturday’s seventh annual BC’s Got Talent.
1BEST DAM PERFORMERS: “BC’s Got Talent” returns 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Boulder City Library amphitheater, 701 Adams Blvd., featuring performers of all ages, with cash prizes for adults, teenagers and younger children. Some of Boulder City’s most talented bands and solo acts, selected from auditions held last month, will perform for the community’s enjoyment, and to earn the votes of the locally culled judges. 1ROCKIN’ THE BLOCK: The Dillinger hosts its fifth annual block party on Saturday, taking over downtown Boulder City for a free, all-ages event featuring live music by local favorites, including The Junk Yard Dogs, Moksha, Same Sex Mary and The Scoundrels. The party will kick off at 3:45 p.m. with a performance by the Boulder City High School marching band and feature hot dog-eating and beer-drinking contests, live art, vendors and food trucks, as well as a charity raffle to benefit the Shane Patton Scholarship Foundation. Long before I was mayor of Boulder City, before I was a state legislator, I started a long, rewarding career as a physician. Two of the hardest things about being a doctor is, 1) telling someone that their loved one has died, and 2) sharing news about critical, potentially-fatal conditions.
