Whether as a location for builders of Hoover Dam to escape the heat, a place to see movies with families, friends or a date, or a venue to enjoy ballet performances, the Boulder Theatre has been a favorite local historical landmark for nearly a century.
Saturday night, a large crowd donned their best 1980s attire, which included an abundance of neon-colored clothing as part of the aptly-named Neon Nights. The block party was hosted by Main Street Boulder City and served as a make-up event for their planned New Year’s Eve celebration, which was canceled due to impending weather. Attendees filled the restautants and bars along the steet, while listening to 80s music played by DJ Mike Pacini.
As the old saying goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
This past weekend, the Boulder City Art Guild hosted its annual Artists in Action show and sale at the Boulder City Parks and Rec gym. While members do not have to live in Boulder City, all participants must be members of the Art Guild. Top, Boulder City artist Barbara Pearce uses a dotting technique to paint images onto rocks. This past Friday evening, a large and appreciative crowd turned out for the Nevada Shakespeare Festival’s performance of “Henry V” in Bicentennial Park. The performance was hosted by Main Street Boulder City and the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. NSF featured six actors and actresses, who each played six to eight characters during the 80-minute performance.
1 REBEL ROCKETTE: Seattle-based singer songwriter Darci Carlson will perform a free show Friday night at the Boulder Dam Brewing Co., 453 Nevada Way. Carlson also models and acts, but she comes from a background of country music and all-American rock and roll. In addition to her solo act she performs with multiple bands, including The Dolly Rottens and The Billy Cook Band. 1 SIN CITY SAINTS: The Saints of Las Vegas will perform a free show Friday and Saturday at the Backstop Sports Pub. The four-piece rock band has played numerous shows in Las Vegas, as well as around the country, including in Nashville and Los Angeles. Their up-tempo shows are known for fan interaction and a set list that includes everything from classic rock hits and ’90s favorites to power pop and the occasional country tune. 1 DAM FINE FILMS: The 13th annual Dam Short Film Festival will be held at the historic Boulder Theatre, 1225 Arizona St. More than 100 short movies in a variety of genres will be screened through Saturday, all organized into blocks with shared themes. There’s something for everyone with romance, comedy, animation, drama, horror and international films. There’s even a showcase of films made by Nevadans.
