Mistakes end Eagles’ hope for playoff berth

Boulder City fought hard for three quarters in search of an upset in the opening round of the Southern Region football playoffs Oct. 30, but the game got away from the Eagles in the final quarter and they were eliminated by Faith Lutheran 40-11.

Athlete of the Week

Each week the coaches at Boulder City High School select an athlete to spotlight for contributions made to his or her team. This week’s honoree is senior Trenton Carmell, who plays quarterback and defensive back for the Eagles. During Friday’s 27-21 loss to Virgin Valley, Carmell made a key play, stretching the ball into the end zone to make a touchdown in the game’s final minutes and advancing the team to the Southern Region playoffs. He also was instrumental in the team’s 49-48 win against Sunrise Mountain earlier this month.

Golfers Advance to State

Boulder City’s Lani Potter shot an 87 in Tuesday’s final round of the Division I-A girls golf state tournament to finish in 10th place with a 174 total for the two-day event at Elko’s Ruby View Golf Course.

Friday’s game will make/break Eagles’ season

The Boulder City football team can advance to the Southern Region playoffs for a third consecutive year with a win at home Friday in its season finale against Virgin Valley.

From Garden to Grave

Last week, the Christian Center Church hosted four showings of Garden to Grave: Live Stations of the Cross. Pastor Deborah Downs said the Stations of the Cross “are a contemplative practice of walking the way of suffering with Jesus. If one were to visit the city of Jerusalem, they would discover all 14 stations on what is called the Via Dolorosa – The Sorrowful Way – a path from Pilate’s court to Golgotha to the tomb.”
