Boulder City a popular spot for Hollywood shoots

Filming movies, television shows or commercials in Las Vegas is very common. But over the years, Boulder City has seen its fair share of moments on the both the big and small screen as well as the pages of many magazines.

The classically trained honky tonk gal from Oklahoma got into the industry singing classical music in Europe, and then toured with a pair of rockabilly acts before heading out on her own. She now records with Dead Horse Productions and tours on her own, playing a classic country style, inspired by such greats as Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn and Waylon Jennings, but bursting with modern flare. 1 HOUSE CALLS: The American Association of University Women will host its annual home tour from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. The tour will highlight five Boulder City homes and buildings, selected for their historical or architectural significance, including the Boulder City Animal Shelter, where attendees may even run into Santa Claus. The tour features and is hosted at the Boulder Dam Hotel. Inside the hotel’s lobby there will be a silent auction, and the Boulder City Art Guild as well as the Boulder City-Hoover Dam Museum will be open to visitors. 1 HOLIDAY BAZAAR: The Boulder City Community Club will host its 42nd annual Doodlebug craft bazaar Saturday at the Boulder City Recreation Center, 900 Arizona St. More than 100 vendors from all over the Southwest will be on hand showing their fine handmade crafts and arts, making it a perfect place to find unique gifts as the holidays approach. There will also be refreshments, food and raffle. The bazaar will be held in booths inside and out of the gymnasiums and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

1 Lake Mead National Recreation Area will host a park ranger led hike to Majestic Canyon on Saturday. The moderate, 3-mile hike will take attendees up a colorful, winding wash that features only a few scrambles and slight elevation changes.
