Boys, girls remain hot on court by picking up 2 wins each
Through the midway point of the season, both Boulder City High School tennis programs are clicking on all cylinders.
“I like where we are right now,” head coach Rachelle Huxford said. “We have a lot of new kids who are still learning the game and gaining confidence with each match. I’m very happy with how everyone is progressing.”
Advancing to 7-1 on the season, the boys defeated Lake Mead Christian Academy 12-0 on Sept. 10 and Coral Academy 16-2 on Sept. 15.
Against Coral Academy, singles players Jake Richards and Nathan Law each finished 2-0.
In doubles play, the tandem of Will Teeples and Miles Alder finished 2-0, while the duos of Seamus Lemon and Grady Crine and Thomas Allen and James Peel each finished 1-1.
Against Lake Mead, singles players Law, Kellan Gross and Bruce Schrock each finished 1-0.
Advancing to 5-2-1 on the season, the girls defeated Coral Academy 18-0 and Lake Mead 12-0.
Against Coral, all three singles players, Audrey Humphrey, Brooklyn Koster and Abrina Soares, defeated the Falcons’ top singles player for their lone victories of the day.
“I’m really proud of how this group battled,” Huxford said. “Brooklyn won a tiebreaker, Abrina came from behind to win. They all pulled it out today against a tough opponent.”
In doubles play, the tandems of Chelsie Larson and Lyla Gunson and Harmony Cook and Quinn Gibson each finished 3-0.
Kylee Hodgson finished 2-0 doubles, winning a game each with partners Lillyana Gubler and Emma Hobbs.
Against Lake Mead, Koster and Soares each finished 1-0 in singles play.
In doubles, Gunson and Larson and Gibson and Humphrey each finished 1-0.
Looking to keep the winning streak going, the Eagles will host Moapa Valley on Tuesday, followed by a road match at Adelson on Wednesday.
