Summer ball club helps athletes hone their skills

It’s looking like another banner will be hung in the gymnasium for Boulder City High’s boys and girls swim programs this season following first-place team finishes this past week at the Division I-A Southern region meet at UNLV.
Coming into the season, senior Boulder City two-way softball star Charlie Masterson had hoped for a state tournament appearance to close out her storied prep career with the Lady Eagles. Today, the four-year starter will get her wish when the Lady Eagles take on Northern Nevada opponent Fernley.
Junior Boulder City High starting pitcher Jake Hubel is rarely seen as the ace of the Eagles’ deep pitching staff. With that honor going toward heralded seniors Peyton Koopman and Steve Wagner this season, Hubel wasn’t often called upon in do-or-die moments by head coach Bobby Reese to propel the Eagles to a victory. When his moment came, however, the emerging junior was ready.
Boulder City will be sending five athletes to the track and field state meet Friday and Saturday at Carson High School in Reno, Nevada, highlighted by a pair of boys participates and a trio of Lady Eagles.
Following an 0-2 performance in last season’s state baseball tournament, the Eagles are hopeful for a more competitive run this season, behind their star senior core.
Senior Charlie Masterson came into her final season with the Lady Eagles from Boulder City High School’s softball team hungry for a state championship. Following Tuesday’s 10-3 opening-round postseason rout of Pahrump Valley, it was clear that Masterson’s hunger was more prominent than ever.
The Boulder City High School boys golf program started off its postseason run with a third-place finish Tuesday at the Division I-A Southern region meet at Palm Valley, advancing to the Division I-A state tournament.
Boulder City High baseball head coach Bobby Reese was hopeful that last Monday’s perfect game by senior Peyton Koopman was a sign of good things to come for the program. Friday’s contest with Spring Valley is probably not what he had in mind at the time.
Both Boulder City swim programs were in action Saturday, competing against Division I opponent Foothill at the Henderson Multigenerational Pool, earning mixed results on the day.
