The Boulder City Council voted to raise utility rates for residents just before midnight Tuesday after nearly four hours of discussion from council members and input from the public.
The Boulder City Library’s Board of Trustees approved the library’s budget for fiscal year 2016/2017. On May 19, the board approved a budget of $1.3 million with an extra $101,240 that will arrive at the begining of June of this fiscal year.

Today’s throwback Thursday is a bittersweet one. 1DAM GOOD BARBECUE: The 12 annual Best Dam Barbecue Challenge returns 4-10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bicentennial Park, 999 Colorado St. In addition to award winning food there will be live entertainment, an array of diverse vendors, the Best Dam Car Show, a kids activity zone and grilling lesson, as well as a police vs. fire department rib eating competition. The event is free and open to all ages.
Boulder City swim coach Sara Carroll has carved out a legacy throughout her 23-year tenure with the program, creating a juggernaut within the Division I-A ranks. The Eagles have dominated the early part of the decade, with no signs of letting up. This past week at the Division I-A state swim meet at UNLV was evidence of that.
The Division I-A high school flag football All-Star game took place on Tuesday at Clark high school with several key Lady Eagles playing a large role in the Sunrise’s 18-12 victory over the Sunset.
Despite their best efforts the Lady Eagles softball team fell short of a state championship, losing 6-5 to Spring Valley in extra innings.

Boulder City High School has been a place of endless opportunities for a shy freshman like me. I had moved to Boulder City from Atlanta, where I was often viewed as a number, not a student. I was used to being a part of the crowd and never dreamed of standing out.
The lights shined bright on Saturday night as 21 contestants looked to show their stuff at the seventh annual Boulder City’s Got Talent competition. The competition was close, but Robbie Queen took home the title in the adult category with her rendition of the song “Girl Crush” by Little Big Town. Talent show organizer Justin Keogh said Queen was well deserving of the prize. “She is such a talent,” Keogh said. “It is surprising because she is such a shy person, but then she opens her mouth to sing and it is just amazing.”
The Boulder City Art Guild hosted Artful Arty’s Kids Drawing Day at Hemenway Park Saturday, as nearly two dozen elementary students came out to learn tips on open air art, with hopes of using bighorn sheep as live models.
The Citizens Academy Alumni and Support Services meets each month at the library on the first Thursday of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. This group is a rekindling of the group of graduates from the Boulder City Citizens Academy Alumni Association (BCCAAA) from years past.
