American Legion helps students retire school’s old flag

Students of Grace Christian Academy and members of American Legion, Post 31, of Boulder City gathered early Friday morning to retire the school’s old American flag.

1 COCKTAILS FOR A CAUSE: The Dan Leach Memorial Fund will host its fourth annual Old Town Cocktail Walk at 7 p.m. Friday. The walk is held in conjunction with the Dan Leach Memorial Golf Tournament, which will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Boulder Creek Golf Club, and will stop at downtown restaurants and bars. There will be live music performed by The All-Togethers beginning at 8 p.m. at Two Wheels Park, at the corner of Nevada Way and Wyoming Street. Frazier enters guilty plea to one felony count

Former Boulder City Animal Control Supervisor Mary Jo Frazier pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of felony animal abuse at Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas, according to Clark County court documents.

Pulitzer winner shares story of famed photo

Earlier this past summer at a journalism event in Los Angeles, I was fortunate to meet Associated Press photographer Nick Ut. The name might not ring a bell with most readers, but Ut took one of the most iconic news photographs of the Vietnam War, a black-and-white 1972 image of a young unclothed South Vietnamese girl running away from the burning effects of a napalm strike. Ut participated in a journalism panel in May in front of an audience eager to hear him talk about the photo. Others who have covered wars were also on the panel.

This week represents the annual National Fallen Firefighter Memorial weekend. Every year, the Boulder City Fire Department, in association with the national memorial, honors the past year’s fallen fighters with an open invitation to the fire station.

Boulder City developer Randy Schams announced Monday morning that he is in escrow for 640 acres of land in the Eldorado Valley, where he plans to build a master-planned community, and is seeking approval from the city to supply water and sewer service to the site.

This week’s honoree is senior Tyler Campbell, who runs on the varsity cross-country team. Campbell placed first in the Sept. 14 Boulder City weekday meet against five other schools, with a time of 18:15, and 10th in the Las Vegas Invitational a few days before. He is a four-year varsity letter recipient in cross-country and also is on the school’s track team. He is the son of Jeni Campbell.

BCHS tennis teams ace their seasons

Boulder City High School’s boys and girls tennis teams head into the postseason with the Eagles finishing with a perfect 10-0 league slate, while the Lady Eagles finished with a 9-1 record.

Roundup: Injuries plague football team; golfers on a roll

Personnel issues were the main cause in Boulder City High School’s football team’s setback Friday against Moapa Valley, suiting up only 22 of the 27 players on its roster for the bus ride to Overton, Nevada, during its 37-0 defeat.
