Each week the coaches at Boulder City High School select an athlete to spotlight for contributions made to his or her team. This week’s honoree is senior Trenton Carmell, who plays quarterback and defensive back for the Eagles. During Friday’s 27-21 loss to Virgin Valley, Carmell made a key play, stretching the ball into the end zone to make a touchdown in the game’s final minutes and advancing the team to the Southern Region playoffs. He also was instrumental in the team’s 49-48 win against Sunrise Mountain earlier this month.
Boulder City’s Lani Potter shot an 87 in Tuesday’s final round of the Division I-A girls golf state tournament to finish in 10th place with a 174 total for the two-day event at Elko’s Ruby View Golf Course.

This week’s honoree is freshman Lani Potter, a member of the girls golf team. Potter, the daughter of Rich and Julia Potter, has had the lowest score, earning medalist honors in all five league matches this season. In the Division I-A regional golf tournament Oct. 14, she shot a 4-over-par 76.
For the second straight year, the Boulder City girls tennis team reached the second round of the Southern Region’s playoffs. But also for the second straight year, the team was eliminated one match short of advancing to the Division I-A team tennis state tournament.
Boulder City’s Jessica Embro placed second and teammate Sierra Selinger was sixth as the Lady Eagles finished in second place Saturday in the Lake Mead Invitational small school girls division.
It is more than a football contest, and much more than a crucial Sunrise League game. It is the annual homecoming football game against Chaparral at 7 p.m. Friday.
