This past July Fourth week I had my large and lively family stay with me for our annual summer reunion here in Southern Nevada. In and out of the pool, lake and river each day, we went through more showers, towels and wash loads than I could count.

Patrick Schneider, a Boulder City resident and Vietnam War veteran, was recognized by the Quilts of Valor Foundation for his service on Sunday, June 24, with the presentation of a homemade quilt.

Volunteers created planters and filled them with enriched soil, filled in rock walkways and planted trees.

Today is officially the start of summer, marked by the summer solstice. As the longest day of the year, it’s time to start brainstorming how to spend the next months of long summer days.
