Afew days ago the Reno Gazette-Journal, which has been running front- page historical items about Nevada during this 149th year of statehood, published an item reporting that “Ronald Reagan’s rally for Republican candidates for state office at the University of Nevada, Reno quad on Oct. 7, 1982, was the first visit to campus by a sitting U.S. president.”
At the recent Washoe County Republican convention a resolution was passed declaring that the local party was “manifestly opposed” to the preprimary endorsement “scheme” being pursued by the leaders and members of the Nevada Republican Central Committee. Not just opposed, manifestly opposed … whatever that means.

For nearly a decade, Dr. Christina Vela has not only been the CEO of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children but often a pseudo-mom to many boys and girls who have call the Ranch home. This has come by way of offering a sympathetic ear, the proverbial shoulder to cry on or being their biggest cheerleader.
This past school year, discussion among many parents of school-aged children, as well as teachers and administrators, was what may come of talk of school consolidation.
Through the midway point of the season, both Boulder City High School tennis programs are clicking on all cylinders.
Boulder City High School girls soccer advanced to 4-0-2 on the season, routing 4A Basic on Sept. 10, while tying with league rival Pahrump Valley on Sept. 9.
