Hometown Hero: Vietnam vet awarded quilt of valor

Patrick Schneider, a Boulder City resident and Vietnam War veteran, was recognized by the Quilts of Valor Foundation for his service on Sunday, June 24, with the presentation of a homemade quilt.

Seen on Scene: At St. Jude’s Ranch’s Community Garden

Gabriela Loredon, left, of Las Vegas and Breanna Vreeland, daughter of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children’s Executive Director Christina Vela, were among those who volunteered Saturday to help build a community garden. Volunteers created planters and filled them with enriched soil, filled in rock walkways and planted trees.

Horsin’ Around to Help Others

Laura Leach, center, congratulates Abrey Wrightsman, left, and TJ Hatfield, who won the 2018 Dan Leach Memorial Horseshoe Tournament played Memorial Day weekend. The event raised $1,746 for the Dan Leach Memorial Fund, a nonprofit organization that helps pay for children to participate in sports, dance, extracurricular classes and other activities. It continues the efforts of the late Dan Leach, a Metropolitan Police Department officer who was dedicated to helping children before he was killed in an accident in 2009.

Yoga Yields Benefits

Kathleen Wall, far right, recently presented a $1,300 donation to Emergency Aid of Boulder City. She offers a yoga class on Mondays at the Elaine K. Smith Center, with proceeds designated for Emergency Aid.
