Flag football all-star scrimmage on tap Wednesday

The 2015 girls flag football all-star game will be played at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the stadium at Boulder City High School.

The game, presented by the Southern Nevada Flag Football Coaches Association, will feature the best players from the Sunrise and Sunset leagues.

Jeanne Carmell, Kinsey Smyth, Kenzie Pluta, Oshanna Remy and Paige Buettner will represent Boulder City. They helped lead the Lady Eagles to the 2014-15 Clark County championship.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Any girls wearing a Clark County School District flag football jersey or team shirt will receive free admission.

Baseball begins with ‘Opening Day’ ceremony tonight

The community is invited to the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department’s annual baseball Opening Day ceremony. It will be held at 6 tonight at Pratte Field at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd.

Special guests expected to attend the ceremony include Tony Sanchez, UNLV’s new head football coach, and Boulder City Mayor Roger Tobler.

Opening Day celebrates the role baseball plays in America and recognizes Boulder City youth who have practiced and are prepared to play in the upcoming season, a department spokesman said.

Two T-ball games will be played.

Additionally, local sponsors will be recognized for their support of the youth league.

Kids Bowl Free program begins Friday

Boulder Bowl, 504 California Ave., is offering two free games each weekday to children 17 and younger as part of the national Kids Bowl Free program.

The program runs Friday through Aug. 31.

Customers must present printed coupons in order to get the two free games, and shoe rental is not included. Coupons are online at www.kidsbowlfree.com.
