Golfers advance to state tourney

The Boulder City High School boys golf program started off its postseason run with a third-place finish Tuesday at the Division I-A Southern region meet at Palm Valley, advancing to the Division I-A state tournament.

Trailing Faith Lutheran (386) and Pahrump Valley (417) with a team score of 444, the Eagles advanced to their fifth consecutive Division I-A state tournament appearance.

Junior Kyler Atkinson led the Eagles with a second-place finish, shooting a 73 during both rounds on the par-72 course to finish with a total score of 146.

Sophomore Jackson Wright didn’t loom far behind, tying for 12th placewith Clark’s Arpepanya Phonsavanh and Faith Lutheran’s J.R. Tuls with an overall score of 170. Junior Samu Jancuk and freshman Chase Hamel tied for 17th place, each with overall scores of 190.

Junior Cade Neilson and freshman Kevin Phelps concluded the Eagles’ efforts with individual scores of 192 and 200.

Swimming

Following Tuesday’s preliminary races, the following swimmers will be competing in the finals of the Division I-A Southern region meet at 5 p.m. Friday at UNLV.

Girls: senior Emily Owens; juniors Nantke Bonsack, Sarah Estes, Mandy Gebhart, Abby Harling, Montana Lloyd, Abby Sauerbrei, Jessica Smith, Tara Spinkelink and Alexis Stebben; sophomores Jillian Porter and Gwynneth Miller; and freshmen Annika Freiburger, Aimee Garcia, Rose Pouch and Ashleigh Wood.

Boys: seniors Nick Lara, Jared Mooney and Joren Selinger; juniors C.J. Herrera, Braden Klouse and Benjamin Missel; sophomores Robbie Leavitt and Clayton Pendleton; and freshmen Paco Cuevas and A.J. Pouch.
