Boulder City High School’s boys golf team traveled to Truckee, Calif., where it finished third at state this season with a 877 total score on May 13.
Faith Lutheran won the state title with 811.
Luke Logan, who placed second overall with 156 total points, was named the Division I-A Player of the Year.
Boulder City fought against Mother Nature as she supplied cold winds and 40- to 50-degree weather.
After the first day, the Eagles found themselves in fourth place, with 438. Luke Logan and Kyler Atkinson had a score of 77, finishing in a four-way tie for second place. The remaining Eagles were Hunter Ulibarri (86), Quentin Turner (93), Samu Jancuk (107) and Jackson Wright (105).
“It would have been nice to be in second or third (place), but since we were within six strokes of second, we were happy and felt that if we were within five (strokes) or so, that we could definitely jump into the second-place position,” coach Regina Quintero said.
On day two, Boulder City made up 29 strokes to push Pahrump out of third place. After the front nine, golf coach Regina Quintero said Elko seemed within reach, but they managed to hang onto second place, beating the Eagles by only one stroke. Logan finished day two with 75. His teammates’ scores were Atkinson, 86; Ulibarri, 81; Turner, 97; Jancuk, 100; and and Wright, 105.
Individually, Atkinson tied for seventh with 163, and Ulibarri tied for ninth with 167.
Boulder City had five players on the All-Sunrise teams: Logan, Atkinson, Ulibarri and Turner on the first team and Wright on the second team
Connie Mack summer league
The Connie Mack 18 and younger team played its first game of the summer season May 21. The team, featuring eight players from Boulder City High School’s varsity baseball team, defeated Mojave 15-2.
Jake Hubel pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and one walk. Hubel was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Nolan Desantis hit a three-run home run to right-center field.
