Emergency Aid thanks Angel Tree volunteers, donors

We wish all Angel Tree volunteers a very merry Christmas and a very big thank you!

So many helped in various ways — from accepting the applications, preparing the Angel tags and placing them on the tree, accepting the gifts and then distributing them to parents for our Boulder City children in need. The generosity and support of Boulder City residents, the Boulder Dam Credit Union, the Boulder City Library and businesses that allowed boxes for donations in their stores: It is overwhelming! Hip hip hurrah to all.

Our caring community helped over 400 children and seniors in Boulder City this holiday season. Thank you from Emergency Aid of Boulder City.

Coach’s efforts organizing poker tourney appreciated

Congratulations to Boulder City High School coach Bobby Reese. He, of course, is the varsity baseball coach. He was in charge of the charity poker event at the Hoover Dam Lodge (Hacienda) Dec. 6 to raise money for the varsity baseball team.

We had not met coach Reese before and we have to say he was a lot nicer than we anticipated, as we had followed each other before in articles and letters to the editor in the Boulder City Review.

The dealers were very patient with those of us who had never heard of the small and big blinds as Texas Hold ’em is played.

The evening was so well organized and everyone had a good time. We could all tell the work that coach Reese put into the evening to make it go so well.

Good job coach Reese. We should do this every couple of months.

Letters express writers’ opinions, not facts

Opinions are not facts.

A couple of witticisms should be considered when you read letters to the editor. These apply to opinions about politics, religion, race, sexual orientation, you name it. These also apply to all sides of the debate because not letting the facts get in the way is not unique to any side.

The first: Many people will give you the facts whether they are true or not.

The second: Many people are frequently in error but never in doubt.

Keep these in mind and I guarantee you that some of the letters will be hilarious.
