Eagles look to repeat as state champions

Boulder City High School’s boys bowling team stormed into the postseason with a shot to repeat as state champions after closing out the regular season with a 36-point winning streak.

Led by Randall Berkheimer’s 639 series, the Eagles took all three games against Del Sol Jan. 22 to close out their regular season with an 81-9 record.

But it was not a pretty day at the office for the state champs as Berkheimer was the only bowler to break 200 the entire match. Nonetheless, the Eagles shot 725, 723, and 638, respectively, and left Boulder Bowl with all nine points.

After a slow start to the year where they only managed two points in their opening match against Chaparral, the Eagles finished their last nine matches with a record of 79-2. The only bump in the road came during their rematch against the Cowboys shortly before winter break.

Chaparral was the only team to put a blemish on Boulder City’s record this season.

The Lady Eagles struggled against Del Sol to close out their regular season, but their 45-45 record was good enough to earn a spot in the playoffs. The first round of the postseason was held Wednesday at The Orleans, but matches were not completed in time for the Boulder City Review’s deadline.
