Parades, floats all part of big week
Monday is the start of homecoming week at Boulder City High.
The week’s highlights include many annual events such as float building, parade, bonfire, football game, crowning of homecoming king and queen, and the dance.
Float building will be in the school’s auto shop from 5-8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The floats will then be featured in the parade.
The annual parade is at 6 p.m. Oct. 9. It will follow the same route as the past five years, beginning on Eagles Drive (formerly School Drive), turning west on Fifth Street to California Avenue, then turning right (north) to Arizona Street where it will turn left (west) onto Nevada Way. The parade head downs Nevada Way until it turns left (south) on Elm Street. It will stay on Elm Street and cross Buchanan Boulevard until it ends in the empty lot next to the Boulder City Fire Station.
The bonfire immediately follows the conclusion of the parade Thursday; that should be at 7 p.m.
The homecoming assembly will be in the gym from 11:42 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. Oct. 10.
The football team will play Chaparral at 7 p.m. Friday, with the king and queen coronation at halftime.
The annual dance, themed “An Evening on Broadway,” is from 7-10 p.m. Oct. 11 in the school’s auxiliary gym.
Soccer
The Boulder City boys team won its first match of the season Monday, beating Moapa Valley 4-0 in Overton. Hunter Dale scored twice and Victor Andrades had one goal and two assists to lead the Eagles, now 1-5-0 overall and 1-5-0 in Sunrise League play.
Justin Fox also scored for Boulder City, which played shorthanded for the final 70 minutes after receiving a red card. Barrett Cowdrey made three saves to earn the shutout.
The Lady Eagles also got their first win of the season Monday with a 1-0 shutout at home against visiting Moapa Valley. The Lady Eagles improved to 1-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the league.
Oshauna Remy’s goal with 15 minutes left in the match lifted Boulder City to the league victory. Goalkeeper Jeanne Carmell made seven saves to earn the shutout.
Girls Golf
Lani Potter shot a 14 over par 86 to earn medalist honors Sept. 23 in a Sunrise League match of seven teams at Boulder City Municipal Golf Course. Tech’s Meghan Chase was second with 92.
The Lady Eagles played Monday against Desert Oasis at Boulder Creek Golf Course, but the scores were not reported. They also had a Sunrise League seventeam match Wednesday at The National Golf Course.
The Lady Eagles’ next match is at 9 a.m. Tuesday at The Canyons.
Tennis
Melissa O’Berto, Arianne Hess and Natalia Fullmer each went 3-0 in singles for the third consecutive match as Boulder City defeated Moapa Valley 15-3 in a Sunrise League match Sept. 23.
The Lady Eagles defeated visiting Virgin Valley 13-5 Monday as O’Berto and Hess each went 3-0 in singles. The doubles teams of Sariah Gneiting and Alexis LeMaster, and Natalia Fullmer and Iris Meijer each went 3-0.
The Lady Eagles are now 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the Sunrise League.
The No. 1 doubles teams of Sariah Gneiting and Iris Meijer won all three of its sets.
The girls are looking forward to the Sunrise Region team playoffs beginning Tuesday. The individual playoff are later in the month.
“Our goal this week is to finish the regular season unbeaten in our league for the third straight year and then to do well in the team playoffs,” O’Berto said. “We have five seniors and as a team we are expecting to do better than last year.”
A year ago, the Lady Eagles advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
On Sept. 19, O’Berto, Hess and Fullmer each won as the Lady Eagles defeated Desert Pines 11-7.
Meanwhile, the boys team now sports a 2-7 record and a 2-5 league record.
On Sept. 23, No. 1 singles player Andre Pappas and No. 2 singles player Gavin Morris each won two of their three matches, but Boulder City lost 15-3 to Moapa Valley.
Monday, Pappas was 3-0 in singles, while Eric Gros and Jacob Harrison went 3-0 in doubles but Boulder City lost at home to Virgin Valley, 11-7.
Both Boulder City tennis teams were scheduled to play Wednesday at Quest Prep.
Girls Volleyball
Jaden Wood had 12 kills and four aces as Boulder City remained unbeaten in Sunrise League play with a 25-19, 26-24, 25-12 victory over Virgin Valley. Maggie Roe added five kills and five blocks while Samantha Hanson had seven aces and four kills.
The Lady Eagles defeated Sunrise Mountain, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-19 Monday behind the play of Roe, Alyssa Ybarra and Lauren Pocius.
Boulder City, 16-6 overall, is in first place in the Sunrise League with a 5-0 record. The Lady Eagles continue their league schedule Tuesday at Moapa Valley and at home Wednesday against Del Sol.
