Every week when I read in the Boulder City Review the column by Officer Jeff Grasso it makes me smile. He has such a neat sense of humor that comes out in his writings, and it is one of the first things I head for in the paper after the Police Blotter, which also makes me smile.

What funny human beings we are. These two articles are worth the price of the paper. Thanks, Jeff, don’t stop writing. You make my day.

City breaking own ordinances

Now that the outside clock in Hotel Plaza is on its way to behaving on a correct schedule — preamble chimes, correct time — thank you, Linda, for your inquiring into this and to Steve for being the clock’s devoted guardian. Let’s look into another problem in the Old Town area: blocked sidewalks.

The picnic tables in Bicentennial Park are often placed on the adjourning sidewalk on Colorado Street. This completely blocks pedestrians walking in the park. This forces them to walk out into the street or cut across the grass.

This may be an (Americans With Disabilities Act) problem that needs to be addressed. It seems ironic that the city zones on merchants blocking the streets charges them for blocking pedestrian areas, but doesn’t seem to apply to the city’s use or misuse of the sidewalks.

Another example of nonenforcement of city code is the beautiful eagle statue on the corner of Nevada Way and Wyoming Street. Although it is privately owned, it is being stored on the public sidewalk. It is beautiful and should be seen, but it is not placed properly and is not on private property within the area.

Hopefully this could be corrected within a short time frame this year. Sometimes little things lead to more little infractions of what could easily be corrected from the beginning.

Grace Christian congratulates graduates

I want to congratulate both the kindergarten and sixth-grade graduates of Grace Christian Academy. The kindergarten graduates include Kennedy Greene, Madison Palmer, Lauren Tannehill and Moses WainWright. The sixth grade graduates include Olivia Goodfellow, Thoms Mees, Joel Mendoza, Sabrina Somers, Tori Spinkelink, Justice Tilman and Sydney Whitman.

The school is accepting enrollment for its new sixth/seventh-grade combined class and K-5.
