Team behind BC’s Got Talent

I would like to thank the Boulder City Review for its coverage of the Friends of the Arts hosting of the “Boulder City’s Got Talent” show. As mentioned in the article, the event drew a large crowd that enjoyed an exciting and entertaining evening.

As always, to pull off this type of event, there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes. I would like to acknowledge members of Friends of the Arts who made this special evening possible. Christy Springgate-Hill is the current president of FOTA and was the guiding force for scheduling and organizing the event. Justin Keogh orchestrated the auditions and was also our incomparable emcee.

Special thanks to Carla Morgan, who also participated in the audition process, in addition to providing a state-of-the-art sound system for the show. Maribeth McLay helped with the setup and also assisted Christy in handing out free popcorn to a grateful audience. Sue Burger provided our advertisement and also created the brochures for the event.

One of the reasons the talent show attracts so many who want to participate is because the (Boulder Dam) Credit Union provides very generous cash prizes to the winners and runners-up. A huge thank you to the Credit Union for their continued support of this event.

I also want to acknowledge our judges for the evening: Cam Walker, City Council; Steven Slivka, Boulder City Review; Eddy Feeney, Boulder City High School senior; and Mary Beth Clift, Boulder Dam Credit Union.

I think it is important for the community to know that Friends of the Arts is a very small organization and has managed to sponsor BC’s Got Talent and other free concerts at the library with very limited funding and very few members for a number of years.

However, this year, because we have not received any grant funding, we probably will not be hosting any free concerts at the library this summer. We will continue to solicit donations and grants in order to provide our citizens with wonderful entertainment at no cost.

Candlelight might be alternative to old electrical system

Regarding “Failures to electrical system could leave half of city without power.” How quaint. Now we can enjoy our nonnative palm trees and dirty concrete by candlelight.
