Most of Lady Eagles title-winning team named to All-Division roster

The Lady Eagles fresh off their second consecutive state title this past February, this time coming in the newly created Division I-A, were well-represented during postseason accolades, nearly fielding their entire roster on the All-Sunrise Division team.

Fielding eight contributors on this season’s All-Division roster, the Lady Eagles, who capped off their second consecutive undefeated season with a 21-0 record under head coach Chris Morelli, had the most players by any school regardless of division to be recognized for their regular and postseason achievements.

“It’s a great honor for the girls to be represented as some of the state’s top individual players,” Morelli said. “Each girl on our roster contributed to our second state championship title; they should all equally share the credit and accolades.”

Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was senior dual-threat quarterback Jeanne Carmell, who, despite playing in the lower-tier division this past season, was awarded Clark County School District Player of the Year.

“She was no doubt the most deserving candidate,” Morelli said. “Not only for her outstanding quarterback play, but for her contributions on both sides of the ball. She’s a game-changer out there, no matter where she lined up.”

The most efficient passer the game has seen since Clark County introduced the sport four years ago, Carmell concluded her senior season with 531 passing yards, 66 touchdowns and only three interceptions on 386-of-553, passing for just under a 70 percent completion percentage, while rushing for 1,539 yards and 23 scores on 147 carries for just over 10 yards per attempt. Carmell also tallied 78 tackles, with five interceptions.

Also, Carmell concluded her glorious three-year career as the Lady Eagles’ Athlete of the Season.

Senior wide receiver Oshanna Remy concluded a storied prep career of her own, taking home team Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading the conference with 106 catches and 1,484 receiving yards, while coming in second only to teammate Kenedee Bailey with 15 touchdowns. Defensively, Remy contributed with 89 tackles, four sacks and three interceptions, all of which she took to the house for Lady Eagles’ scores.

Bailey had a breakout year on both sides of the ball for the Lady Eagles and is expected to be the team’s next star after taking home Sunrise Defensive Player of the Year honors. Leading the conference with 153 tackles and 10 interceptions, Bailey finished third in sacks with six, while tallying a defensive touchdown. The next-highest tackler was Virgin Valley’s Hanna Haviland, who tallied 98 on the season.

Bailey was also good on the offensive side of the ball for the Lady Eagles as a deep threat, hauling in 63 passes for 940 receiving yards and 17 touchdown receptions.

Playing key two-way roles for the Lady Eagles as well, seniors Emma Jeppsen, Tarah Cox and Makenzy Waldo also earned All-Division honors.

An all-around contributor for the Lady Eagles, Jeppsen was used as a Swiss Army knife this past winter, rushing for 328 yards and six touchdowns on 46 carries, while hauling in 20 receptions for 257 receiving yards and two scores. A key double on defense, Jeppsen also tallied 78 tackles and four interceptions, returning one of them for a score.

Cox, a first-year letter winner, played a key role in the Lady Eagles’ passing attack, hauling in 55 passes for 786 yards and eight scores. She also had 42 tackles and two interceptions.

Waldo, who earned the Lady Eagles Coaches Award, hauled in 39 passes for 509 receiving yards and eight scores and totaled 26 tackles and five interceptions.

Senior Samantha Lawrence and junior Aimee Finn concluded the list of All-Sunrise players for Boulder City, following solid seasons.

Lawrence was given the team’s Most Improved Player award for her versatility and willingness to fill needs at multiple positions, and Finn contributed with 55 receptions for 648 yards and eight scores, while tallying two interceptions.

“I’ve said it all year, but I’m truly going to miss this group,” Morelli concluded. “I’ve had a wonderful time coaching all of these girls, and I couldn’t be more proud of their success. Each day they came in ready to work and ready to be champions.”
