Facts do not support theory Democrats live dog's life

Thank goodness we have people like Larry Hunt to elevate our political discussion — comparing Democrats to dogs! (Letter to the Editor July 23)

The idea that Democrats are living off the backs of hard-working Republicans is not supported by the facts. As Business Insider puts it: "It is red states that are overwhelmingly the Welfare Queen States. Red States — the ones governed by folks who think government is too big and spending needs to be cut — are a net drain on the economy, taking in more federal spending than they pay out in federal taxes. They talk a good game, but stick Blue States with the bill."

Based on the 2012 election map, of the 32 states which receive more than they contribute to the federal government, 27 states (84 percent) are Republican. Of the 18 states which contribute more than they receive, 14 states (78 percent) are Democratic. The supposedly indolent "tax and spend" liberals actually subsidize the individualistic, pure and hard-working lifestyle of our conservative countrymen!
