Retired public workers to meet today

Members of the Boulder City chapter of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada will meet at 11 a.m. today at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive.

Guest speaker will be Chris Frausto, former chairwoman of the city’s Historic Preservation Committee.

Members will go to an area restaurant for a no-host lunch after the meeting.

Democrats to elect officers

The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 tonight at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

During the session, new club officers will be elected and there will be a review of the Democratic presidential caucus.

Additionally, members will discuss issues for the April 2 county party convention and the May 14-15 state party convention.

All interested people are welcome to attend.

See Spot Run sets work day, bake sale

See Spot Run will hold a work date from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at its dog park in Veterans’ Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the facility.

Also on the group’s schedule is a fundraising bake sale from 9 a.m. until closing on March 18 at the Boulder Dam Credit Union, 530 Avenue G.In addition to baked goods, a variety of gift items will be available including pavers to honor your pets.

Trinkets and Treasures on tap for club

The Community Club will hold its monthly meeting at noon March 24 in the dining room at Grace Community Church, 1150 Wyoming St.

A pizza luncheon will begin the session, which will be followed by the annual Trinkets and Treasures sale.

Republican women to hear candidates

The Boulder City Republican Women’s Club will hold its monthly luncheon meeting March 17 in the banquet room of the Railroad Pass hotel and casino, 2800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Doors will open at 11 a.m., with the lunch starting at 11:45 a.m.

Congressional candidates Michelle Fiore and Michael Roberson, who seek to represent the 3rd District, will be the guest speakers.

Cost of the luncheon is $21. Reservations are required and must be made by noon today.

Yoga, wine event returns

Booze Yoga blends relaxing yoga with bottomless red wine in a unique, restorative experience for yogis and newcomers alike.

The monthly event returns to Boulder City and the Forge Social House, 553 California Ave., for the second time at 7 tonight.

Yin yoga is a soothing form of yoga, aimed at decompressing and relieving tension, that requires neither experience nor flexability, according to those presenting the event.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and $40 covers the class and unlimited wine for each participant; the cost is $20 for yoga only. Mats are available without additional charge.

Art guild partners with lodge for show

The Boulder City Art Guild, in conjunction with the Hoover Dam Lodge, is presenting Southwest USA, an exhibit of fine art by guild members. It continues through May 31 at the resort, 18000 U.S. Highway 93.

Works by 25 artists are on display.

A reception for the exhibiting artists will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday. Refreshments will be served.

The success of the first collaboration prompted Hoover Dam Lodge to double the amount of exhibit space for this show.

Barbecue lunch to aid Patton scholarship fund

Area residents are invited to join That Others May Live for a barbecue lunch to raise funds for the Shane Patton Scholarship Foundation.

Poppa Naps BBQ of Las Vegas will be serving the lunch, which includes a whole pig roast, barbecued chicken, brisket, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and potato salad.

The lunch will be held at the Pro Gun Club, 12801 U. S. Highway 95.

The event also will include entertainment, a raffle and chance to visit with vendors supporting the organization’s annual clay shoot.

Proceeds from the lunch will support the foundation, which was established to honor Shane Patton, a Boulder City High School graduate who became a Navy SEAL and died in Operation RedWings.

Tickets for the lunch are $25 per person.

Vendors also are needed.

Lend A Hand schedules training for volunteers

Lend A Hand is seeking volunteers to help drive area senior citizens and disabled people to medical appointments locally and in the Las Vegas Valley. Additionally, volunteers are need to help the nonprofit’s clients stay in their homes by providing respite for caregivers, companionship or small tasks such as grocery shopping.

A training session for potential volunteers will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdayat the office, 400 Utah St.

Library to hold reading program finale

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

Adult book club, 9 a.m. today in the community room. For those 18 and older.

Keeping Kids Fit club, 3:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. For those 6-11 and their caregivers. The six-week program will use fun activities to teach families about the importance of exercise and healthy eating. Advance registration requested.

Winter reading finale — Jeopardy, 6 p.m. Friday in the community room. Those attending are welcome to bring their dinner. Register at the reference desk.

Adult book club, 7 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. For those 18 and older.

Teen time, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Those 12 and older are invited to come play games, work on homework or just hang out.

Crazy 8s math club, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. For those in kindergarten through second grade. The eight-week, hands-on program will include activities to get children excited about math. Reservations required.

Volunteers sought for Lake Mead cleanup event

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week.

These include:

Volunteer program: Cottonwood Cove ecology walk, Saturday. Volunteers are needed to clean up the roadway from the Cottonwood Cove entrance station to the shoreline. Wine walk to have Mardi Crawl theme

The Best Dam Wine Walk presented by the Chamber of Commerce continues its series of walks from 4-8 p.m. Saturday. It will have a Mardi Crawl theme and there will be more than 20 stops on the walk.

Stop by the Chamber of Commerce at 465 Nevada Way first to get a glass and map of participating locations. Glass sales will stop at 6:30 p.m.

The event is part of Second Saturday, which also includes family-friendly activities such as human foosball, a giant corn hole and entertainment.

Cost of the wine walk is $25 a person or $45 a couple.

Church seeks donations for Country Store

Grace Community Church is now accepting donations for its annual Country Store.

Donations of clothing, hardware, furniture and household items will be accepted.

They can be brought to the church at 1100 Wyoming Ave. from 9-11 a.m. on Mondays.
