Chamber to hold ‘Ugly Sweater’ wine walk Saturday evening

Boulder City Chamber of Commerce will present its “Best Dam Ugly Sweater” wine walk from 4-8 p.m. Saturday. A prize will be awarded for the ugliest sweater.

Cost is $25 per person or $45 per couple.

Start at the Chamber of Commerce office, 465 Nevada Way.

BCHS theater students will present Inge’s ‘Bus Stop’

Theater students at Boulder City High School will present “Bus Stop” by William Inge today through Saturday.

The comedy takes place inside a restaurant in a small Kansas town where a bus is forced to stop because of icy conditions on the road.

Performances are scheduled at 6 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday in the theater at the school, 1101 Fifth St.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Emergency Aid looking for final Angel Tree gift donations

Friday is the final day to bring in gifts for this year’s Angel Tree sponsored by Emergency Aid of Boulder City. The gifts may be brought to Boulder Dam Credit Union, 530 Avenue G, where the tree is set up.

Gifts will be distributed to parents Saturday from the basement at the back of the library.

Annual home tour set for Saturday afternoon

American Association of University Women will present its 39th annual Home Tour from 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

Participants will be able to tour six homes and businesses, starting with the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

Proceeds from the event benefit the organization’s scholarship fund to aid women returning to school.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the hotel.

‘Christmas Wish’ dance show on tap at theater Dec. 18

Dance Etc. will present “A Christmas Wish” at 7 and 8:15 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Boulder Theatre, 1225 Arizona St.

The holiday show will feature dancers and singers from Dance Etc., Intensive Dance Co. and the Rising Stars.

Democratic club to discuss plans for 2015 at meeting tonight

The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 tonight at Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

On the evening’s agenda is a discussion of activities in the new year and the Jan. 10 kickoff party. Club members, guests and the public are invited.

Retired Public Employees set monthly meeting, lunch

The Boulder City Chapter of the Retired Public Employees of Nevada will meet at 11 a.m. Dec. 18 at the Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive. Guest speaker David Sharp, editor of Boulder City Magazine.

Members will attend a no-host lunch after the meeting at a local restaurant.

Library schedules variety of activities, events

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

n Teen holiday craft and movie, 3 p.m. today in the community room. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will be shown. For those 13 and older. Reservations requested.

■ Science Exploration Club, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday in the board room. Explore science through stories, experiments and crafts. For children 3-6.

■ Holiday present wrapping, noon Saturday in the community room. Bring your presents and supplies and wrap without family or friends watching.

■ Computer class, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. Participants will learn about using Google and the Boulder City Library website. Class is limited to five people. Reservations and a refundable $5 deposit are required by 4 p.m. Sunday.

■ Craft hour, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the community room.

■ Lego challenge, 3:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the community room. The session is designed for those 6 and older.

Republic women to mark holiday, install officers at luncheon

Boulder City Republican Women’s Club will have its annual Christmas party today at the Railroad Pass, 2800 S. Boulder Highway. New officers will be installed and there will be a sing-along of holiday music.

Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.

Community blood drive will be held today at LDS church

The next Boulder City Community and Boulder City Hospital blood drive will be from 1-7 p.m. today in the chapel gymnasium at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 916 Fifth St.

All donors will receive a voucher for a buy one get one free meal from Braddah’s Island Style restaurant.

Methodist church to ring in holidays with bell concert

The Boulder City United Methodist Fellowship will present a handbell concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St.

Harmony Handbells, under the direction of Brad Hendricks, will perform traditional and contemporary Christmas songs, as well as a song celebrating Hanukkah. The group is a community choir of 12 experienced ringers from throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

There is no cost to attend. A goodwill offering will be taken.

See Spot Run will hold work day at dog park this Saturday

See Spot Run is holding a work day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the dog park at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd.

Additionally, the group continues to gather pet food and kitty litter for Emergency Aid of Boulder City. The food will be given to needy Boulder City residents for their cats and dogs.

Donations of canned or dry dog and cat food, and kitty litter can be dropped off at the dog park through Dec. 25. Donations should be placed inside a large black trash can inside the gate; they will be picked up each evening.

Additionally, the group is offering 2015 calendars featuring local dogs playing at the dog park.

The calendars are $15 each. Proceeds from sales will help the nonprofit group maintain and operate the dog park.

Churches plan special ‘Blue Christmas’ service

Boulder City United Methodist Church and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church are collaborating for a special Blue Christmas service at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Christopher’s, 812 Arizona St.

The service is designed for those who are sad during the holiday season, and will acknowledge that Christmas is not always a joyful and happy time. It also will remember those who have died in the past year.

Tickets available for annual Santa Train at railroad museum

Tickets are now on sale to ride the annual Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 601 Yucca St.

Train rides with Santa and Mrs. Claus will depart hourly from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, Dec. 20 and 21.

Tickets are $5 per person for anyone older than 1. Advance purchase is recommended as trips usually sell out.

New for this year is an evening Pajama Train, with excursions departing at 5 and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday (Dec. 12 and 13). The night time trips will include hot chocolate and cookies aboard the train, stories and visits with Santa.

Tickets for the Pajama Train are priced from $14 to $20, with advance purchase recommended.

Ordinance promotes cleanliness, accessibility of public places

A relatively small but appreciative crowd turned out Saturday evening for Jazz in the Park, sponsored by the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department and the Las Vegas Jazz Society. The evening featured the Marlane Coker Quintet and guest at Bicentennial Park.
