Boulder City boy advances to
Elks’ state hoop shoot
Twenty-eight boys and girls from six Elks lodges in the Southern Nevada District competed Jan. 10 at the Boulder City Recreation Center in the district’s hoop shoot, sponsored by the Elks National Foundation.
Each of the six winners, including Nicholas Muelrath, who was sponsored by the Boulder City Elks Lodge and won the 10-11-year-old boys division, will advance to the state contest, which will be held Feb. 7 in Hawthorne.
Winners of the state contest will advance to the national competition to be held in Springfield, Mass., in April where they will vie for $60,000 in scholarships.
Members of the Boulder City lodge volunteered at the district contest, and members of Boy Scout Troop 7 served as ball retrievers.
A barbecue was held after the contest, where awards were presented to the winners.
