At first glance, a whale, a kiln, sound equipment and books wouldn’t seem to have much in common. Yet all were in the same place, in a way, last week as teachers from local schools were presented with grants for special educational materials from the Rotary Club of Boulder City.
The year is 1933, and visitors and prospective workers from all over the United States are looking to enter the settlement housing the men and women who are working on what was then called the Boulder Dam.

The Boulder City Pool hosted its second annual Soggy Doggy party Saturday as the municipal pool was opened for the enjoyment of man’s best friend on the last day of the summer season before closing for two weeks to clean and prepare for the fall.
“Great Showmen” was the theme for this year’s performances presented by Boulder City Chautauqua on Saturday at the historic Boulder Theatre.
Valarie Vanario’s husband is an officer for the Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas and for the past two years she has been part of hosting a day of appreciation for law enforcement officers across the valley. After seeing the success the event has had just a few miles away, Vanario decided to bring the concept home to Boulder City, where she and her family live.

Organizations are looking for volunteers as fall arrives and citywide events like Art in the Park move closer.
History is an intrinsic part of Boulder City, a community that has made a concerted effort to keep the past alive and has become a bit of authentic tourist destination because, in large part, of those efforts.
Go to practically any event in Boulder City and it would probably be more surprising not to find Barbara Agostini there than to see her volunteering — again.
