Five local students attend Clean Energy Summit

Five students living in Boulder City were sponsored by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to attend the sixth annual National Clean Energy Summit that was held Aug. 13.

The Reid-organized event, which was held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on Las Vegas Boulevard, featured former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in a panel discussion.

The $225 general admission price was waived for University of Nevada, Las Vegas sophomore Steven Pardinas, Boulder City High senior Evan Klouse, Las Vegas Academy junior Sarah Dey, and Boulder City High seniors Jana Williams and Kurt Steinke.

The National Clean Energy Summit brought together energy officials including Southern Nevada Water Authority General Manager Pat Mulroy, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, NV Energy CEO Michael Yackira and Lisa Jackson, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency and now a vice president at Apple, and Interior Secretary Sally Jewell. The summit marked Jewell’s second visit to Southern Nevada in as many months.

It was getting power, the door was closed properly, yet when I pressed “start,” it just wouldn’t. I advised her to call a local appliance repair company. $85 later she was informed that it somehow went into its “locked function.” Simply holding down the Heat/Dry button for three seconds unlocks it. That’s all it needed. Boy did I feel dumb. I mean, I’m the Toolbelt Diva, after all.
