Holiday recycling options available for residents

Because New Year’s Day is Wednesday this year, recycling trucks will not be operating in Boulder City.

As this is one of the busiest times of the year for residents to generate recyclable material, the city has partnered with B.C. Waste Free to provide customers options. These include:

n Recyclables may be taken to the Boulder City Landfill from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week (excluding New Year’s Day).

n Recyclables may be dropped off in the temporary container at Bravo Softball Field parking lot (on Avenue B south of the pool). Keep mixed recycling separate from the Christmas tree recycling container, as organics mixed in with recyclables will ruin the entire load.

If either of the other options are not convenient, excess recyclables can be placed in bags or boxes next to your green recycling tote for collection Jan. 8.

For any questions related to recycling, visit the city’s public works Web page at: www.bouldercitypublicworks.org/recycling/.

Sometimes simple appliance DIY can spare you costly service calls

Wasn’t I embarrassed when I couldn’t figure out why my friend’s dishwasher wouldn’t start. I troubleshot as best as I could, given my limited time visiting her. It was getting power, the door was closed properly, yet when I pressed “start,” it just wouldn’t. I advised her to call a local appliance repair company. $85 later she was informed that it somehow went into its “locked function.” Simply holding down the Heat/Dry button for three seconds unlocks it. That’s all it needed. Boy did I feel dumb. I mean, I’m the Toolbelt Diva, after all.
