Small quake rattles nearby area

No damage was reported from a magnitude-2.3 earthquake that struck at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The quake’s epicenter was 8.8 miles northeast of Boulder City and at the surface of the ground, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Boulder City Police Department said it didn’t receive any calls about the earthquake.

The quake was in the same vicinity as a smaller, 1.6-magnitude temblor that hit at 8:28 p.m. Saturday. That quake was 9 miles northeast of the city.

On Monday, a 4.4 earthquake shook the Los Angeles area at 6:26 a.m. It was originally thought to have a magnitude of 4.7 but was downgraded after further analysis.

The last earthquake that caused residents concern was a Dec. 30 2.8-magnitude quake at 5:38 a.m. that awoke many people, who described loud noises and tremors.
