Valentine’s Day is coming up quickly and I have a few suggestions for those of you who are looking for someone to love. Valentine cards, flowers or gifts are things of beauty to those who are elderly, far from family or new residents. Nursing homes, senior centers, widow’s groups or hospitals are wonderful areas to find others who will truly appreciate your kindness and love.
Most of these people are looking for a smile, listening ear and a caring attitude. Let’s turn this holiday into one of showing love to our fellow humans in whatever way we are able. The town will be a better place for it.
Now, let’s see what’s been happening.
Jan. 28. Recovered stolen vehicle: A stolen vehicle is recovered as the tootle through town ends abruptly with a traffic stop at 2:34 a.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 93 and Nevada Way.
Disabled vehicle: The rented white Toyota in the middle of the roadway is quickly moved after the driver is instructed to put the car in park and restart the engine at 10:42 a.m. in the 1000 block of Nevada Way.
Thought for the day: I think all of us have had those “aha” moments where the simplest answer is the best answer.
Jan. 29. Fraud: A person comes in to report that someone was trying to use the reporting party’s Social Security number to apply for credit cards but the reporting party’s credit wasn’t good enough at 3:13 p.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.
Suspicious: Several residents call about strange sounds and the feeling of the house shaking but no major seismic activity was reported at 11:13 p.m. in the 800 block of Jeri Lane.
Thought for the day: I guess it’s a solution but we don’t recommend keeping your credit score low to detour identity theft.
Jan. 30. Suspended driver’s license: The driver has a suspended license and warrants from Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas, and now has tickets, a tow bill and several nights in the crossbar hotel at 12:17 a.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 93 and Veterans Memorial Drive.
Destruction of property: A man reports damage to his cactus after rocks were thrown at his residence while he was away at 11:43 a.m. in the 1000 block of Industrial Road.
Thought for the day: This was a good example of how letting things go can pile up into a big night of trouble.
Jan. 31. Assist other department: Officers respond to notify a woman that her husband had been transported to the hospital at 8:24 a.m. in the area of Veterans Memorial Drive and Commons Drive.
Trespassing: An evicted tenant tries to retrieve his personal property without the required appointment at 12:17 p.m. in the 800 block of Avenue B.
Thought for the day: A good measure of lawfulness is if you have to go through a locked window to get inside, it’s probably illegal.
Feb. 1. Noise: A subject is complaining about the noise of a tenant in a house divided into small apartments at 4:37 p.m. in the 600 block of Seventh Street.
Foot: An officer makes contact with a male subject who appears to be removing multiple layers of clothing at 7:13 p.m. in the area of Buchanan and Adams boulevards.
Thought for the day: As long as there is, at least, one layer of clothing left when you’re done removing them, we’re good.
Feb. 2. Trespass: The security guard locates one subject who has entered an unoccupied room during renovations at 3:13 a.m. in the 700 block of Nevada Way.
Trespass: The resident wants the drunk neighbor trespassed from his house after he has multiple visitors delivering tall cans of beer and continues to bang on the front door at 7:32 a.m. in the 700 block of Elm Street.
Thought for the day: Morning deliveries of beer — who could ask for better friends?
Feb. 3. Domestic: The man wearing only jeans and the woman in a bathrobe are yelling at each other and sitting on the curb at 7:34 a.m. in the 1500 block of Nevada Highway.
Parking: The caller is fed up with all the trailers and campers parked along the street where the owners do not live at 3 p.m. in the area of Becky Lane and Dorothy Drive.
Thought for the day: Legally registered vehicles may be parked on the street directly contiguous to the address of registration.
Call(s) of the week: Traffic hazard: A call is entered in regard to debris in the roadway that turns out to be large ice chunks falling off semitrailers. The caller believes this to be highly unlikely in the desert (but it is) at 10:18 a.m. on Feb. 2 in the area of U.S. Highway 93 and St. Judes Ranch for Children.
