Lend A Hand to hold volunteer training Tuesday

 

Lend A Hand is offering a training class for new volunteers at 9 a.m. Tuesday at its office, 400 Utah St.

Lend A Hand helps senior citizens, disabled and handicapped residents of Boulder City, driving them to appointments across the Las Vegas Valley and providing respite and companionship for them to remain in their homes.

Library schedules variety of activities, events

 

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

Odd Squad reading camp: 10 a.m. today in the community room. Join Vegas PBS for the four-week camp. For those ages 5-9.

Movie: 2 p.m. today in the community room. “The Dark Knight Rises” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

Family movie: 11 a.m. Friday in the community room. “The Incredibles” will be shown. Bring blankets and snacks.

“I Survived” book club: 3:30 p.m. Friday in the board room. Participants are asked to read “I Survived: The Battle of Gettysburg, 1863” by Lauren Tarshis before attending. The session will include a discussion, activity and craft related to the book.

Teen and adult craft: paper clay animal heads, 1 p.m. Saturday in the community room. For those 12 and older. Reservations and a $5 refundable deposit are required.

Writing workshop: 10 a.m. Monday. The four-week session is for children ages 8-16. Participants will create a variety of writing types including short story, drama, poetry, memoir and graphic novel. Space is limited. Advance registration required.

Sock Rockerz!: 11 a.m. Monday in the community room. For children 12 and younger.

Preschool story time: 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5.

Super poems workshop: 2 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. Explore the world using your five senses and poetry with Joan Robinson. For those in grades 6-12.

Toddler story time: 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.

Hero club: 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. Hereos know their world is theme of the session. For those 4-11 years old. Learn how to be a hero in the four-week club. Register in the youth department.

Library board of trustees: 7 p.m. Wednesday in the board room.

Note, the library will be closed Sundays through Labor Day.

Myriad special events on tap at Lake Mead

 

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming weeks. These include:

Ranger program: Boating 101, 3 p.m. Saturday in the auditorium at the Alan Bible Visitor Center. Learn the essential musts for boating at the recreation area.

Ranger chat: “The Mojave Desert — A Magical Land,” 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center. Learn about the flora and fauna found in the desert.

American Legion breakfast served Thursday mornings

 

All veterans and their families are invited to the American Legion’s varied-menu breakfast from 6-8:30 a.m. Thursdays at the American Legion Hall, 508 California Ave., between Boulder Bowl and Grace Christian Academy. There is no cost to attend, but donations are welcome.

Legionnaires and eligible veterans are invited to the American Legion meeting at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the hall.
