Bake sale, work day planned by See Spot Run
See Spot Run will hold a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Boulder Dam Credit Union, 530 Avenue G. There will be treats for dogs as well as people.
In addition to baked goods, the sale will feature tickets for the group’s drawing of a quilt with dogs on it.
Volunteers are needed at the nonprofit group’s dog park in Veterans Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd., for a work day Feb. 14. A variety of projects will be worked on from 9 a.m. to noon.
Training for new Lend A Hand volunteers scheduled
Lend a Hand will offer a free training class for those interested in volunteering for the nonprofit organization. It will begin at 9 a.m. Feb. 17.
Lend A Hand helps senior citizens, disabled and handicapped residents of Boulder City by driving them to appointments across the Las Vegas Valley and providing help, respite and companionship, allowing them to remain in their homes.
The training session will be held at the Lend A Hand office, 400 Utah St. Lunch will be provided.

University Women to discuss economic opportunities
The American Association of University Women will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the Spillway Room at the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.
The program, Economic Opportunity for All, will address topics such as higher wages, equal pay, paid leave and better work-life balance policies.
All interested people are welcome to attend. The meeting date was changed because of Presidents Day.
Democratic Club to learn of Organizing For Action at meeting
The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. A presentation by Organizing For Action will be featured.
The club ended 2014 by presenting a $500 donation to Emergency Aid of Boulder City as well as announcing it would present three $1,000 scholarships.
Club members and interested people are welcome to attend the meeting.

Red Mountain Choir to begin rehearsals for spring concert
Red Mountain Choir will hold rehearsals for its spring concert, “Masquerade,” from 7-9 p.m. every Thursday starting today. Rehearsals will be held at the Elaine K. Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St.
The choir will perform April 17 and 18.
Anyone 15 and older who enjoys singing is welcome to participate.

Bethany to host gospel quartet Feb. 15
Bethany Baptist Church, 210 Wyoming St., will present a free concert at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 featuring the Blackwood Quartet. The ensemble is a descendant of the Blackwood Brothers and specializes in gospel music.
All are welcome to attend.
Grace academy annual kindergarten open house tonight
Grace Christian Academy will hold its annual kindergarten open house from 6:30-8 tonight. Families with children who will start kindergarten in August are invited to visit the classrooms, tour the campus, meet the kindergarten teacher, review the curriculum and have questions answered.
The academy is at 512 California Ave. It is a ministry of Grace Community Church and a member of the Association of Christian Schools International.
In addition to traditional curriculum, the school offers specialty classes such as art, vocal music, music theory, laboratory science, technology and physical education. iPad technology is integrated for students in all grades.

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:
n Graphics Club, 3 p.m. Friday in the board room. The book club focuses on graphic novels, manga and comics. For junior and high school students.
n Bedtime Math Club, 3:45 p.m. Friday in the community room. The eight-week program features hands-on math games. For children in kindergarten through second grade.
n Craft, book wreath, 1 p.m. Saturday. For teens 12 and older and adults.
n Movie, 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the community room. “The Princess Bride” will be shown. Snacks and drinks are permitted and you can bring your own chairs and blankets.
n Preschool story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For children 3-5 and their caregivers.
n Movie, 6 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. “Mr. &Mrs. Smith” will be shown. Snacks and drinks are permitted and you can bring your own chairs and blankets.
n Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months.

n Craft: Recycled paper seed heart, 6 p.m. Wednesday. Learn how to make paper valentines that contain seeds. For those 12 and older. Reservations and a 5 p.m. refundable deposit are due 48 hours in advance.

Author to be Republican Women’s guest speaker
Boulder City Republican Women will hold its monthly meeting Feb. 19 at Railroad Pass, 2800 S. Boulder Highway. The session will begin at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:45.
Guest speaker will be noted author Loren Spivack of Massachusetts.

Special event on tap at Lake Mead
Lake Mead National Recreation Area will hold a watercolor painting demonstration Saturday. Artist Sharon Schafer will be painting at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Drive. She will be there from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. discussing her work and answering questions.
The event is presented in partnership with Western National Parks Association.

Support group helps family of those with breathing problems
Area residents are invited to attend the Friends and Family of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease support group. The group meets at 10 a.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Senior Center, 813 Arizona St.
Bruce Borchard of Vital Care leads the group, which explores ways for better living with COPD, asthma and emphysema. It is sanctioned by the Better Breathers and American Lung Association.
New support group for those in grief meets at senior center
The Senior Center of Boulder City is offering a new Surviving Grief support group that will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the center, 813 Arizona St.
The group is designed to help those struggling with a loss of any kind. The Rev. Sandy Johnson of Boulder City United Methodist Fellowship is leading the group.
