Today last day to help pets in need

Today is the final day See Spot Run will collect pet food for local residents in need.

Dry or canned dog and cat food and bird food, as well as cat litter are among the items needed. All donations must be in their original packaging and be closed and not expired.

A large container for donations is at the nonprofit dog park at Veterans' Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd. Additionally, donations can be brought to Professional Pet Room & Groom, 707 Canyon Road.

Donations will be given to Emergency Aid of Boulder City.

 

Talk about desert plants on tap at Lake Mead

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week.

These include:

Ranger chat: "The Mojave Desert: A Magical Land," 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Road. Participants will learn about the plant in the desert, including the creosote bush and Joshua Tree.

Note: The visitor center will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Movies fill library's schedule

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has several activities planned for the coming weeks. These include:

Movie, 5:30 p.m. Monday in the community room. "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi" will be shown.

Teen movie, 2 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be shown.

Family movie, 2 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. "Minions" will be shown.

Note: The library will be closed today and Friday for Christmas, and close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Club to hear from head of county Republican Party

The Boulder City Republican Woman's Club will meet Jan. 21 in the banquet room at the Railroad Pass hotel and casino, 2800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

Guest speaker for the afternoon will be Ed Williams, chairman of Clark County Republican Party.

Doors will open at 11 a.m., with lunch served at 11:45 a.m.

Cost is $21 per person. Reservations are required and must be made by noon Jan. 14.
