All wheeled vehicles must follow rules of road

If you are a bicycle rider and are riding in the roadway, you must obey the same rules as vehicles. This includes hand signals for turns, stop signs and signals, aligning with vehicles at a stop.

If you are utilizing a bike lane, you are not allowed in and out of the travel lane. Bikes are not allowed on the sidewalk and riders are to get off and walk the equipment across the crosswalk. The same goes for scooters, skateboards and any other wheeled form of transportation.

Some of you have asked about school zones in the summer. Is there summer school? There are a limited number of kids at the attending high school this summer so there will be no activation of the school zones. Obey the regular speed limits and road rules.

June 4. Vagrancy: An officer makes contact with a vagrant sleeping on a park bench and he is back on his way to Arizona at 1:28 a.m. in the area of Joshua Street and Nevada Way.

Animal: There is a report of people fishing since 6 a.m. catching more than their limit at 1:46 p.m. in the 1600 block of Buchanan Boulevard.

Suspicious: A caller doesn’t appreciate the “ring and dash” routine when she has to work in the morning at 9:03 p.m. in the 500 block of Utah Street.

Thought for the day: I think we’re all secretly hoping for karma for the doorbell ringer, toilet paper stringer or other kid pranksters. Then we remember we were kids once and, oh no, this might be our karma.

June 5. Suspicious: The caller advises also not being impressed with the doorbell antics at 1:40 a.m. in the 600 block of Northridge Drive.

Civil: A person comes to the lobby to discuss child visitation and was advised to address gaps in the parenting plan at 3:48 p.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.

Welfare: Callers report a man and woman pushing two children in strollers along the roadway on the way to Searchlight and we assist getting them to a safe location at 8:02 p.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 93 and U.S. Highway 95.

Thought for the day: Walking to Searchlight with two small children during the hottest part of the year is not a good idea.

June 6. Disturbance: A man is surprised to find that the unknown man who walked in his back door unannounced is his niece’s boyfriend at 4:44 p.m. in the 600 block of Avenue I.

Civil: A caller asks for a standby while repossessing a vehicle at 6:57 p.m. in the 600 block of Avenue L.

Civil: A woman reports she is renting a room and the landlord just turned off the power and is sitting on the roof after asking her to move out at 9:34 a.m. in the 500 block of Ville Drive.

Thought for the day: Lock your doors. The next person to come in your back door might be looking for more than your niece.

June 7. Traffic: One more driver makes a last minute decision to turn left from the right lane at 9:40 a.m. in the area of Buchanan Boulevard and U.S. Highway 93.

Traffic: A woman thinks it’s “in” to throw her hands in the air and stand in the travel lane during a traffic stop. Not only was this obstructing but it’s dangerous at 4:21 p.m. in the area of U.S. 93 and the south city limits.

Accident: A woman walks away from a potentially fatal rollover at 5:02 p.m. in the area of U.S. 95 at mile marker 55.

Thought for the day: Speed and driving reckless can cost you in fines and the cost of new wheels.

June 8. Suspicious: A man thinks he heard his front door open and someone sit on his couch at 12:51 a.m. in the 1300 block of Georgia Avenue.

Assist other: Officers standby for Nevada Highway Patrol after a pickup pulling a trailer clips another vehicle while changing lanes and they just catch up with them at 12:54 p.m. in the 1200 block of Nevada Highway.

Drunk: A caller is concerned when an intoxicated man is in a car crying at 11:12 p.m. in the 700 block of Nevada Way.

Thought for the day: It’s best to get a room if you plan a night of imbibing.

June 9. Suspicious: An officer becomes an electric gate repairman when it stands open until someone drives up and then closes it at 2:45 a.m. in the 1300 block of Airport Road.

Suspicious: Elderly person accepts some assistance from the boys in blue with a garage door stuck open and agrees to seek medical assistance at 4:20 p.m. in the 500 block of Island Cove.

Civil: A teenage subject demands the process of emancipation be expedited (hopefully prior to his father finding out) at 7:59 p.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.

Thought for the day: Being an adult is a long process. It’s best not to hurry it along too much. It’s not as fun as you’d imagine.

June 10. Found property: A caller would like a bicycle picked up that may have been left by a subject arrested a week ago at 7:41 a.m. in the 800 block of Nevada Way.

Suspended driver’s license: A driver gets to spend a night in lockup after the bad decision to drive on a license suspended for DUI at 9:52 a.m. in the area of U.S. 93 and Veterans Memorial Drive.

Civil: A caller requests assistance after calling a local locksmith only to discover he charged her hundreds of dollars to open a door and had fictitious identification at 2:26 p.m. in the 700 block of Capri Drive.

Call(s) of the week: A man is in the lobby to turn himself in for crimes not yet reported at 8:49 p.m. in the 1000 block of Arizona Street.
