Teacher on leave after shooting

A special education teacher at Boulder City High School is on paid leave after she was arrested on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm.

According to Clark County School District officials, Jacqueline DeSilva was "assigned to home with pay" after authorities received word that she had fired a gun at her husband after he came home from a night out on Jan. 13.

Michelle Booth, the district's director of communications, said administrators and teachers are the only ones who qualify to be assigned to home with pay. Support staff, such as bus drivers or custodians, would be assigned to home without pay.

Boulder City High School Principal Amy Wagner said she could not comment on the situation involving DeSilva.

Her arraignment was held Feb. 6, and her court appearance is set for 1 p.m. April 5 with Judge Victor Miller at Boulder City Municipal Court.

Court documents show that DeSilva has been charged with assault with use of a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm from or within structure or vehicle within prohibited area; both are felonies.
