The seventh annual Heart of the Community Gala raised funds for Boulder City Hospital while honoring longtime volunteers and residents John and Christine Milburn. The evening’s festivities included silent and live auctions, the tribute to the Milburns, as well as a special tribute to the late Dr. Michael Ravitch, a surgeon and supporter of the hospital who died in January.

Veterans home employees honored

Three Nevada State Veterans Home staff members were on honored for providing quality care June 8 during the Southern Nevada Endeavor Awards. The nursing home in Boulder City serves veterans and their families.

Dogged determination: Snoopy finds new home after ordeal in desert, losing leg

Snoopy, an 18-month-old pit bull, was going on a cross-country trip from Las Vegas to Texas when tragedy struck. Snoopy’s owners put the dog in the back of a trailer and drove to their destination, but along the way the trailer came unhitched. The trailer tipped over and the owners were unaware they had lost it.

Ringen honored for inspiring students

Boulder City High School teacher Johan Ringen won the Leslie Ringen Memorial Trophy last month at the Fiesta Henderson. The award, which is voted on by the students, goes to the most inspirational teacher at the school.

Area residents work to find ‘good’ for all in state

Education, immigration and services for the elderly and people with disabilities were the focus of discussions as more than 1,500 leaders from the area gathered for Nevadans for the Common Good’s third Convention for the Common Good in May at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas.
