Retired public workers to hear genealogist

Members of the Boulder City Chapter of Retired Public Employees of Nevada will gather for their monthly meeting at 11 a.m. today at The Homestead of Boulder City, 1401 Medical Park Drive.

Guest speaker will be Jerry Kunzman of the Clark County Genealogical Society.

After the meeting, members will go to a local restaurant for a no-host lunch.

The group’s next meeting is scheduled for May 12.

Democrats to hear from congressional candidates

The Boulder City Democratic Club monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 tonight at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Members will hear from candidates for offices including our congressional district as well as discuss questions on the November ballot. Details for the state party convention set for May 14-15 may be available.

University Women to host

wine, chocolate tasting

The Boulder City branch of the American Association of University Women will host a chocolate and wine tasting event from 6-9 p.m. Saturday on the patio at the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St.

The semiannual event raises funds for local scholarships.

The local branch’s mission is to empower women via college scholarships and advocates for equal pay.

Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the hotel.

Patton Pub Crawl set for Saturday

The annual Shane Patton Pub Crawl will be held Saturday evening at various establishments in the downtown area.

It will begin at The Dillinger Food and Drinkery, 1224 Arizona St., and end at Forge Social House, 533 California Ave., where Thee Swank Bastards will perform.

There is a $30 entry fee, which includes a T-shirt and discounts at participating locations.

Patton was Boulder City High School graduate and Navy SEAL who was killed during a rescue mission in Afghanistan in 2005.

All of the proceeds from the pub crawl are donated to a scholarship foundation established in his honor.

St. Christopher’s church hosting spring sale

St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church will hold its annual spring sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The sale will include new and gently used items including housewares, games, clothing and baked goods.

St. Christopher’s is at 812 Arizona St.

Auditions scheduled

for BC’s Got Talent

BC’s Got Talent will hold auditions for its upcoming show starting at 9 a.m.

Saturday at the Elaine K. Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St.

Appointments are necessary to audition, and there is a $10 fee.

The show will be held at 7 p.m. May 21 at Bicentennial Park, 999 Colorado St.

Morley to conduct church service

The Rev. Bob Morley, a United Methodist minister who recently retired after 43 years in the ministry, will lead the worship at Boulder City United Methodist Church on Sunday. The service will begin at 11:15 a.m. in the chapel at St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, 100 St. Jude’s St.

Morley also is an accomplished concert performer on guitar and vocals, and has performed in every state and dozens of other countries.

Republican women set monthly meeting

The Boulder City Republican Women Club will host its monthly luncheon and meeting April 21 in the banquet room of the Railroad Pass, 2800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

The doors will open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.

Guest speakers will be Eric Johnson and Scott Holper, who are running for district court judge seats.

Cost is $21 per person.

STEAM club, 3:30 p.m. today in the community room. Explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through stories, crafts and activities. For those 6-11.

Movie, 5:30 p.m. Friday in the community room. “The Avengers” will be shown. Bring chairs, pillows or blankets.

Drop in story time, 10 a.m. Tuesday in the board room. For all ages.

Anime club, 5 p.m. Tuesday in the board room. For those in junior high grades.

Adult book club, 7 p.m. Tuesday in the community room. For those 18 and older.

Toddler story time, 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room. For children younger than 36 months and their caregivers.

Crazy 8s math club, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the community room. For those in kindergarten through second grade. The eight-week, hands-on program will include activities to get children excited about math. Reservations required.

Lake Mead to host junior ranger day

Lake Mead National Recreation Area has a variety of special events happening in the coming week.

These include:

Junior ranger day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Alan Bible Visitor Center, 10 Lakeshore Road. Children can become official junior rangers learning about the land and water at Lake Mead, paleontology resources at Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument, create nature prints and more. Free Every Kind in a Park passes will be given to all fourth-graders. Six different junior ranger books will be available. Badges and certificates will be given to all kids who complete the activities.

Ranger program: “Coyotes: What You Should Know,” 4 p.m. Saturday at the Boulder Beach amphitheater.

Rage triathlon, Saturday. About 1,300 athletes will compete in the event, which begins with a sunrise swim at Boulder Beach, followed by a bike course as it leads to the River Mountain Loop Trail. Visit www.bbsctri.com/#!rage/csiq for details.

Red Mountain Choir to present ‘Believe’

Red Mountain Choir will present “Believe” at 7:30 p.m. April 22 and 23 at the Elaine K. Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St.

The choir, conducted by Lisa Gillespie and accompanied by Ashley Peel, will be joined by students from King Elementary School, conducted by LaNette Coker.

Musicians for the concert include Francyl Gawryn on guitar, Adam Hallan on percussion, Tim Thomas on bass and Ruth Ann Platt on violin.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults, and free for children and students. They can be purchased at the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce, 465 Nevada Way, or at the door.

Lend A Hand offering free wellness program, lunch

As part of the expansion of its respite program, Lend A Hand will be presenting “Eat, Laugh and Be Well…” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27 at the Elaine K. Smith Center, 700 Wyoming St.

The session will feature a “super foods” lunch prepared by chefs from Nevada Senior Services and a presentation by Marty Jacobs, a certified yoga instructor. The program is appropriate for those of any fitness level and everything can be done while seated.

Additionally, information about resources for senior citizens and caregivers will be presented.

The program is designed for those 60 and older. There is no cost to participate.

Community Club to meet at hotel

The April meeting of the Boulder City Community Club will be held at 12:30 p.m. April 28 at the Boulder Dam Hotel, 1305 Arizona St. New officers will be installed.

Art guild partners with lodge for show

The Boulder City Art Guild, in conjunction with the Hoover Dam Lodge, is presenting Southwest USA, an exhibit of fine art by guild members. It continues through May 31 at the resort, 18000 U.S. Highway 93.

Works by 25 artists are on display.

The success of the first collaboration prompted Hoover Dam Lodge to double the amount of exhibit space for this show.

Church seeks donations for Country Store

Grace Community Church is now accepting donations for its annual Country Store.

Donations of clothing, hardware, furniture and household items will be accepted.

They can be brought to the church at 1100 Wyoming Ave. from 9-11 a.m. on Mondays.
