Heartfelt Art at the hospital

The Boulder City Art Guild will host a reception for artists featured in the “Art From the Heart” exhibit from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Boulder City Hospital.

The new exhibit of work by members of Boulder City Art Guild is on display through Aug. 31 at the hospital, 901 Adams Blvd. The reception is open to the public.

PEO yard sale fundraiser

The Philanthropic Educational Organization of Boulder City will hold its annual yard sale fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1213 Avenue G. Proceeds will benefit PEO projects and scholarships. For more information, call 702-371-3577.

Senior Center ice cream social

The Senior Center of Boulder City will host an Ice Cream Social from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the center, 813 Arizona St. As their way of thanking the community for helping to keep the “Food Pantry” open, the center will provide the dessert and children of all ages will be able to build their own sundaes. Lake Mead’s Las Vegas Bay star party

The Lake Mead Institute will present an evening of activities Saturday at Las Vegas Bay. There will be a sliver moon visible making it a perfect night to experience dark night skies at Lake Mead. Partners will host a night hike along the scenic Bluffs Trail, a constellation tour and telescope viewing. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Summer reading programs, crafts and a movie at library

Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd., has the following free activities planned for the week:

■ Summer reading programs begin for all ages on Monday, with the youth program sign-ups kicking things off with the Las Vegas 51s at 11 a.m. in the community room.

■ A pair of craft hours will be held on Tuesday, with an all-ages session at 10 a.m. and a youth session at 1 p.m.

■ “The Peanuts Movie” will be presented Wednesday at 10 a.m.

■ Positive Action for Teens will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday as WestCare hosts a nationally recognized program for improving academic performance and behavior.

Note: The Library will be closed Sundays through Labor Day.

Boulder City Democrats meeting

The Boulder City Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. June 9 at the Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd. Discussions will focus on the primary election and the recent utility rate increases decided by the city council. Flag Day Ceremony at the Elks Lodge

The Boulder City Elks Lodge will host a Flag Day ceremony at 1 p.m. June 11 at the lodge, 1217 Nevada Highway. The ceremony will include a presentation of colors by the Nellis Air Force Base Honor Guard and an exhibition by Boy Scout Troop 7 on the history of the flag. The event is open to the public.

See Spot Run to present ‘pup crawl’

See Spot Run will present its seventh annual poker run, pup crawl and silent auction June 11.

The event, scheduled from 5-9:30 p.m., will include stops at several local pubs.

Participants can visit in any order and collect cards, turning in their best high or low hand by 9 p.m. Winners will be announced at 9:30 p.m. at the Boulder Dam Brewing Co., 453 Nevada Way.

Pubs and eateries participating in the event are: Boulder Bowl, Boulder Dam Brewing Co., The World Famous Coffee Cup, The Dillinger Food and Drinkery, Evan’s Old Town Grille, Grandma Daisy’s, Jack’s Place, Milo’s Cellar, Oasis Boutique Motel, Southwest Diner and Tony’s Pizza. Tickets are $20 each, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit organization’s dog park at Veterans’ Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd.

Lend A Hand looking for volunteers

Lend A Hand is in need of additional volunteers to provide assistance to Boulder City’s senior and disabled residents and will be holding a training class from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21 at the Lend A Hand office, 400 Utah St. For more information and to sign up for the class, call 702-293-6231.

Every now and again you come across a product that makes you stand back and say, “Wow, that worked way better than I thought it would!” These gleeful moments come as a welcome surprise when we’re often disappointed by products that overpromise and under-deliver. Ordinance promotes cleanliness, accessibility of public places

Individuals camping in public spaces has increased dramatically in the past few years across the nation. On May 27 the city of Boulder City joined the cities of Reno, Las Vegas, Henderson, and Sparks, along with Clark, Washoe, and Nye counties in passing a measure to expand the prohibition on camping in public places within city limits. The new ordinance goes into effect on June 19, 2025.
