Top five candidates for city’s finance director spot to be interviewed

Boulder City officials are narrowing their search for a new finance director.

The application period for the position is now closed and the interview process will begin soon, according to Boulder City Manager David Fraser.

Five of the 17 applicants will be interviewed.

“I know I always say this but we had some really good people apply for the job,” Fraser said. “We have five applicants to interview, but I don’t want to get into specifics about who they are.”

The city hopes to have a new finance director by Oct. 1, but that time frame is not guaranteed.

“The beginning of October seems like a reasonable time frame to me,” Fraser said. “We want to fill the position sooner rather than later, but more importantly we want to get it right.”

Former Boulder City Finance Director Shirley Hughes resigned in July after accepting a job as the city administrator in Liberty, South Carolina.

The title of interim finance director is currently held by the city’s chief accountant, Doug Honey.

“Doug has been doing a great job for us,” Fraser said. “He is doing two jobs right now though, so while we appreciate him stepping in, we want to get someone in the position as soon as possible.”

According to Fraser, dates have not been set for conducting interviews.

The salary for the position has not been determined .
