No excuse justifies breaking laws

What day is it? Where does the time go? The stopwatch of time has no pause button. As we hurry through our day we sometimes rationalize reasons to justify our actions. This week’s observations come after rather an unpretentious DUI arrest. The arrested driver asked repeatedly to be released.

Clear-cut laws leave officers few options

You may remember Monty Hall, the host of “Let’s Make a Deal.” This ’70s game show provided contestants the opportunity to choose Door No. 1, Door No. 2 or Door No. 3 to win a prize. Regrettably, those door choices are not possible for many of the people we encounter in law enforcement.

Take steps to protect your home

We need to begin with a correction this week. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the use of airsoft/pellet guns. I mentioned it is OK to discharge airsoft/pellet guns in the privacy of ones backyard. However, a Boulder City ordinance misinterpretation occurred.

Crime does not take a holiday

Welcome. 2014 is off to a fast start. In the first few days of the new year, I learned crime was not on holiday. It’s definitely apparent that poor decision making is the foundation of our job security.

Busy year highlights mission to protect, serve

The year 2013 winds down! Who would have thought? We made it. As the blue and red lights shut down and the patrol day comes to an end, we unavoidably stroll toward the closure of 2013. During the past patrol year, we’ve shared many stories together: some good, some bad, some funny, some sad. So, in the final 2013 Boulder City Police Department blotter, I’d like to share my perceptions; I hope they make sense.
